“This is not for you,” Dan said, indicating me and by extension Bleeding Cool, “this is for her.” He explained that fans had grown up with Wally West, seen him get married and have children and with the de-aging of Barry Allen, it would cheat those fans who grew to love Wally to de-age him as well. “But don’t go quoting me on that,” he said with a laugh.
What bugs me about this statement is the fact that Didio is saying that de-aging a character, erasing a marriage, and the children produced from that marriage is cheating the fans. Seems a little ridiculous when you look at the state of DCnU and see that every character has been de-aged, most marriages have been erased, and a lot of the younger generation of characters have been forgotten.
Dick Grayson is a good example of the hypocrisy of that statement. Dick Grayson is one of the best examples of a character who had been allowed to grown-up. Over the course of DC's history Grayson was allowed to grow out of his role as Robin, become his own man as Nightwing, and then take on the mantle of his mentor to become Batman. Despite the fact that fans are adamant about the return of Wally West in some fashion, Didio claims it would cheat them to de-age him and undo his growth as a character? What about Dick Grayson? Granted, his history is still intact for the most part but what about those of us who were fans of him becoming Batman? Where we not cheated? What about the fans of his relationship with Barbara or Starfire? Between Batgirl and Nightwing, it seems that his relationship with Babs never amounted to much more than a fling while his relationship with Starfire has been turned into a horrendous joke. Where fans of those relationships not cheated? What about the fans of Barry and Iris or Clark and Lois? Where those fans not cheated either?
I'm sorry, as
good of an answer as that appears to be, it's really not an answer. You can't undo the continuity of majority of your characters and then say it would be unfair to change the continuity of another.
