The thing with Levitz is that it feels that his skills haven't evolved in the past 20 years. They may have faded a little in fact . I've only been wowed like once or twice in the past couple of years.

It's obvious Levitz has been hampered with the cards Johns left him. The fact he's basically ignored some of the more glaring issues instead of confronting them (like explaining how T-Wolf's powers became more Wolverine-ish. Or what happened between the end of the Baxter Series and the Lightning "Saga.") doesn't help things. And I'm getting pretty tired of his Dominator obsession of late.

Why read it, get pissed off and then post here, praying for it's demise? :deadhorse

I rather enjoyed Legion Lost #1 thru 6. Disappointed to see Nicieza isn't sticking around on it. As for Levitz Legion, I dropped that after three issues. Just didn't have the same oomph before the reboot.

The only way to save it, in my eyes, is to put Grell in control. Writing AND art. Yeah boy.

I hoping more that DC gets figures out it's time to give Levitz the boot, and puts someone on Legion that is more capable of writing a modern-day style SF book, as opposed to one that feels like it's stuck in the 1980's.

DC needs Grell to bring Legion back to the bondage prone 70s. Bring back Grimbor and Charma.

It'd be nice to see Grell back for a few issues, I'll grant you that. DC needs to think of the Legion's long-term future though, and not resort to stunt casting.

Levitz was good in the 80s but seems to me like he has lost his writing skills...

Have you looked at the sales figures? They're going down. It doesn't matter whether or not I'm buying the book if a lot of people aren't buying it.

Sales were heading south before Flashpoint. And they're doing so again.

They certainly appear to have atrophied. Or at least haven't evolved over the past 20 years since the end of the Baxter series.

That's one of the problems with the book right now. It feels like it's more of an 80's book than a 21st century book (31st century. Whatever). Legion needs a writer more in tune with the more current trends in comics and SF. (With the probable exception of decompression, of course.)

You and your friends should consider buying more issues then, and start threads on as many comic sites as possible to promote new readers.

Atrophied is more like it.
I recently re read The Great Darkness saga and it was a lot of fun. Every issue was entertaining. Now I read Legion of Super-Heroes # 1 (2010) and it was nowhere as good as any of these old 80s issues.

It could be a little of both as well.

It also apparently helps when Levitz has a good collaborator like Giffen to help him in the plotting. Or at least had an artist with a less than generic view of the future.

You know what would really get new readers to buy Legion on a monthly basis? If Legion was more than a mediocre comic. That's the issue here. The mediocrity is the reason it's slowly slipping back to pre-Flashpoint sales levels (which were inching closer and closer to being below 20,000 even then.)

What's sad is that Legion isn't the first book I would want to share with friends to get them to read comics. It would be something like Fables or a Planetary collection. Legion would be far down the list at the moment. Which is really sad.
