Catching Up w/ DCnU - Action Comics

Postby S.F. Jude Terror » Thu Jun 21, 2012 12:54 am

I've finally had the chance to read some DC Relaunch books after nearly a year. I've been reading them series by series all in one shot. I've never been a big Superman fan, but I figured I would keep an open mind for the DCnU and I did like Morrison's New X-Men (though I've hated his Batman and didn't give a crap about All Star Superman), so I went into this neutral. It actually started out decent for the first couple of issues, even if it was a little weird with future Superman and friends hiding out miniaturized in Superman's brain or something... I dunno, but then it took a break for an issue and came back and there was some weird Braniac stuff going on and I completely lost interest. Morrison should hang it up - his stuff may make sense if you bother to keep reading the drug addled drek long enough for a payoff, but it's not worth that much effort, IMO. I dropped this after issue 7 or 8.

You're literally the worst thing to happen to comics since Stan Lee.

I've been enjoying this. The President Superman story in #9 was a lot of fun, I thought.

President Superman? Is this 1955? Morrison is a turd.

That you didn't give a crap about All Star Superman means your opinion on Morrison carries no weight at all. :P

There's more to it than that.

Sadly, African-American President Superman was a better Superman than Nu-52 whiny mega-liberal pu$$y Superman ever could be.

I dropped it a while ago for the sub par art. Based on what I've heard about the last couple issues, it sounds to me like Morrison's lacking the creative freedom he probably though he had.

Superman is just kind of a lame character. ASS was about two issues of story stretched out to like 12 issues. I'm not saying it was bad, just meh.

Admittedly, most Morrison issues read like mystery novels requiring a lengthy commitment. Much like most of my relationships :?
It was odd that there were a couple divergent story-lines that were dropped in then they resumed the regular storyline. And that odd future LSH story did tie in if you continued reading (see issue #10) although that future Legion is still a mystery as time-travel to the future is supposed to be off-limits.

Unless the future team came back and planted themselves insides his brain before or during the Flashpoint effect (as in "Legion Lost") but the inevitable temporal-incursion headaches really prevent me from really wanting to analyze all that time/space gobblety-gook

I'm still not convinced that Morrison's "Future Legion" is the same as the "real" Legion being published now.

No, that would be Final Crisis.

Another Morrison story f**ked up by DC editorial interference.

DC would have done better to build off Final Crisis more than using the Japanese characters Morrison created in a mimi. Like having characters dealing with the effects of being under the control of the Anti-Life equation. What's it like? Would they suffer from Anti-Life withdrawals?
