Catching Up w/ DCnU - Batman

Postby S.F. Jude Terror » Thu Jun 21, 2012 1:03 am

So I finally had a chance to read a bunch of the DC relaunch books, yes, nearly a year later, and all in one shot, series by series. I had not read Snyder's Detective Comics run (I have never read a lot of DC), but of course I'm aware of all the fanboy gushing he has received. I was a bit skeptical at first because the Owls stuff was kind of corny, but Snyder pulled it together and it's been a fantastic ten issues. I like that it didn't feature a lot of Damien, who is the worst character ever (worse than Red Hulk), and I thought Batman was characterized pretty well. Yes, the Wayne Brother was a risky gambit and in danger of being super lame, but Snyder pulled it off. I'll keep reading this one.

Snyder on Detective was even better. He wrote both Dick and Bruce pretty damn well.

Got to say: between this, 'Tec, Swamp Thing and American Vampire, Snyder has become one of the very few writers whose stuff I will buy no matter what.

Yeah I like what I have read of American Vampire too. I would say I'd go back and read more of his stuff, but I'm struggling just to catch up and keep up with new comics.

Well, if you're not buying Action, you can spend that money on Snyder.

I disagree.

Red Hood (Jason Todd) and Superboy-Prime are worse.

Regarding the quality itself, I thought it was better than anything Morrison wrote but no much was new or original outside of the new Wayne brother.

Damian is the best thing that happened to the Batman franchise since Frank Miller.

I love this series. First time I've liked a Batman book outside of a couple single runs and mostly mini's. Hoping it hold strong after this arc.

I wasn't as up on the big reveal, but it was ok. I really hate the armor of the character though.

While I do agree that ASBARTBW was the best book of this century, Damien sucks.

Tomasi's Batman & Robin is almost, if not just as, good as Snyder's Batman and Damien plays a heavy role in that.

In general, I was against the character at first, but Morrison and then Tomasi on Batman & Robin have both written him well.
