Not only is stigmata the plural of stigma, it's also precisely what the OP meant. As the person who edited it from stigmas to stigmata, I asked TC if s/he meant it to be plural. Her/his response was "yes".

Unsurprisingly, BlueMole is the one who should invest in a dictionary, as well as learn how to edit properly.
"Stigmas" is an acceptable term for the plural of "stigma", and if the plural was needed, the word should never have been changed in the first place. I'd say that overzealous, unnecessary editing is a sign of needing to put one's stamp on someone else's work.
In any case, there is really ONLY ONE "stigma" being overcome, so actually, the word should have been changed to the singular. Yet, as we saw, the editor was more interested in demonstrating his knowledge of the word "stigmata" to notice this and make a PROPER correction.
Please invest in a dictionary AND try to edit people's reports properly. It will do wonders for you.
