Criminal: The Sinners #5

Postby Punchy » Thu Mar 11, 2010 11:08 am

Great finale to a great arc, everything was tied up nice and bloodily, but there was still room for plenty of surprises (what happened to Hyde... wasn't expecting that). I can't wait to re-read this story and take it all in as a whole.

The back-matter has confirmation that this will be the last Criminal for a while, Sean Phillips is doing Dark Tower, and then in Summer (July or August Bru sez) they're launching Incognito 2, which he says will be darker and funnier, and have some scenes in the 30s and 40s. After that... Criminal returns. I hope it's with Leo.

I can't wait for the next arc. I'll probably check out Incognito some time in the next few months and then decide if I want to get the second volume in singles. I really enjoyed this arc, but I didn't recognize who that was in the last panel for some reason. Overall, a very fun story and I hope we see Tracey again some day. I'd be happy with an arc in Iraq, but I doubt we see that.

It was Chester, Hyde's man, Tracy calls him and tells him who killed Hyde.

I love the way this arc ended. Tracy heading back to Iraq felt right to me. I'm going to miss Criminal though. From the way it sounds, I don't expect any new Criminal until next year.

He made it sound like November or so in the back page, but I can't see Incognito wrapping up that fast, so I would expect nothing until next February at the earliest. I'd love to be wrong though. :-D

February of next years sounds about right considering Incognito doesn't return until July/August. I hope we're wrong as well. :-D

The longer the wait the more time it gives me to re-read Sleeper, Criminal and Incognito again.

Not long ago, I looked into the first three issue of Lawless to no favoring care whatsoever. How would you guy say The Sinners compare? On par, better, worse, no discernable difference?

The Sinners is better than Lawless. I consider Lawless the weakest arc. But Sinners is not as strong as Coward or Bad Night.
I'm glad the way this arc ended, because it's unlikely we'll see Tracy play a central role again.
It's really damn sad that Criminal is being sidelined by Incognito. I wish Bru would collaborate with another artist for that book. Epting, for example. It really pisses me off that one of the top crime comics is not coming out for about a year.

Another artist for Incognito would be great. Epting would be a great fit for it.

I think the Brubaker/Phillips partnership is excellent on any story. I wonder if they'll ever get around to that Pirate comic?
