Dan Didio's Top Ten DC Comics

Postby Zechs » Tue Mar 27, 2012 5:16 pm

Given it's his tenth anniversary today (DEAR GOD WHAT THE HELL GOD? WHY DID YOU DO THAT?), Dan Didio has listed his top ten comics that have come out during his tenure. Surprisingly the raping of the Marvel Family, Countdown, Amazons Attack, and his ignorance of Wally West/Cassandra Cain aren't listed.

http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page ... e&id=37814

1.) BATMAN 608 HUSH
2.) IDENTITY CRISIS
3.) GREEN LANTERN: REBIRTH
4.) SUPERMAN/ BATMAN 8: SUPERGIRL
5.) COUNTDOWN TO INFINITE CRISIS
6.) INFINITE CRISIS
7.) 52
8.) SUPERMAN EARTH ONE
9.) BATMAN, GREEN LANTERN, and the Five Year Plan
10.) THE NEW 52

 at 52 and Sinestro Corps War being so low due to them not really being "HIS events".

Where is trinity? Countdown to final crisis? Justice league cry for justice? Arsenal the one armed junkie? Walking superman? Bart as flash?
Oh yah, they all sucked.
As for the new 52, to quote rob liefeld, sales are plummeting off a cliff.
Awesome job didio

This is a timeline I believe, not an ordered list of his favorite comics:

"When you talk about Dan Didio you feel unhappy.
When you feel unhappy you go to a happy hour.
When you go to a happy hour you up for anything.
When you up for anything you head for a Turkish bath house.
When you head to a Turkish bath house you meet Charlie Sheen.

And when you meet Charlie Sheen you re-enact scenes from Platoon with Charlie Sheen"

Really Dan? Countdown?

Wouldn't 52 make more sense being that it's an actual good fucking comic? :smt011

52 is on the list. As hab said, it's a chronological list, not a list of his favorites in order (Superman: Earth One, Didio admits was out of order but was there for a reason).

There's a similar thread by hab that lists out his explanations for each of his choices. I don't necessarily agree with them, but for better or worse a lot of these comics had a huge impact on the industry at the time.

There is no "Good Countdown".
There is only "Pitifully Contrived 80-Page Countdown" and "Ridiculously Unnecessary Year-Long Countdown".

Any moron can write a cheap "Look who I can rape!" story and "create impact".
Brad Meltzer proved that.

I realized after I wrote my comment that it was the 80 page giant. From a writing and story standpoint, that thing is amazing.

As opposed to "Countdown aka trying to repeat 52 but with none of the same talent" :smt011

Amazingly INCOMPETENT.
Don't make me run down all the details of how poorly contrived it was.

Pity most of that was only back to back to back. Guess there was a large dry spell.
