Deathstroke, Hawkman, and Grifter Helmed by Industry Savant Rob Liefeld

Deathstroke, Hawkman, and Grifter Helmed by Industry Savant Rob Liefeld

Ancient friend to the Outhouse, Rob Liefeld, wishes he could warn his 1980's self what he has done.

After the unexpected cancelation of the critically acclaimed Hawk and Dove series, several people wondered what the future held for the series' long time writer/ artist, Rob Liefeld.  Well, wonder no more!

Evil mastermind impersonator, Zechs, has reported that the Image founder will move on to three of the current New 52 books: Grifter, Deathstroke, and Hawkman.

Executive Editor Eddie Berganza was quoted, saying...

It's great to have Rob contributing to DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 in such a major way.  Rob's always been seen as edgy, both within the comic book industry and by his fans. That's a great vibe to bring to these particular books. We really want to push boundaries, and Rob's the guy to do it.

The edgy artist will push these titles in his traditional extreme way.  Rob Liefeld sat down to tell the internet how he will handled Deathstroke, revealing that the book will see Lobo's first appearance in the New 52 Universe.

Deathstroke is tasked with the greatest challenge of his life, taking on the most dangerous prey in the galaxy...LOBO!  The galactic criminal has escaped from his terrestrial prison where he has been housed for years. He is free and ready to settle the score! And what is the secret of the OMEGAs and what role will they play in the deadly showdown?

These edgy questions will possibly be answered during Liefeld's term on the book in question.  Deathstroke will be written and illustrated by the Deadpool creator, no doubt fulfilling a long time dream.

Rob also replaces equally edgy writer/ artist, Tony Daniel, as plotter of the Thanagarian hero, Hawkman.  Here's what Liefeld had to say about the Savage title's future.

He wields the powerful Nth metal and, as Carter Hall is about to find out, it is a weapon coveted by the deadliest players in a game that plays across the ages.  New enemies and allies emerge as Carter Hall travels across the globe in pursuit of the answers to his heritage and the Thanagarian connection.

Finally, Rob Liefeld takes over plotting on Grifter, formerly published by Image through the Wildstorm imprint.  Speaking about the title, the creator of Prophet gave some heavy hint on bringing another Wildstorm character, Deathblow, into the New 52.

Grifter has been targeted for extermination! The time is now for Grifter to embrace his destiny and lead the insurgence against the impending Daemonite threat.  He has spent his life running from his true destiny, but he must embrace his role in the coming conflict or worlds will fall. Familiar faces emerge warning Grifter that nothing can prepare him for what is coming. His true destiny is revealed and a reluctant hero emerges to lead a strike force of human allies that will deliver the ultimate DEATHBLOW to the impending invasion.

All of this is great news for the millions of Liefeld fans that want to see him make an impression on a whole new generation of comic book readers.  We here at the Outhouse would like to offer the Image founder our congratulations for riding out the cancelling of Hawk and Dove and finding future success.  It seriously pays to be cutting edge, grim, and gritty.

And here's Zech's original post for the curious and insane:

Cause Rob Liefeld is writing all three.

http://www.bleedingcool.com/2012/01/13/ ... n-grifter/

Quote:
Bleeding Cool ran the word that Rob Liefeld was about to start writing Deathstroke last week. It looks like I have a new source to trust. But we only knew a third of it.

He’s also writing Savage Hawkman and Grifter, also from issue 9.

Bleeding Cool already told you that Joe Bennett would be drawing Savage Hawkman from issue 9.

Deathstroke will see the character go up against Lobo, Hawkman goes cosmic with intergalactic gladiatorial combat, and Grifter also looking at the cosmic implications of the Daemonite war.I think that common theme is quite deliberate. In space, no one can hear you run at the reader screaming, guns blazing

Rob Liefeld, writing as many books for DC as Scott Lobdell. Who would have thought? Well done Rob!

so far, nothing I've been reading is in danger
However, Liefeld is an enigma wrapped in a pouch-filled, muscular, footless conundrum.

Shit, when I confronted Dan Didio at NY Comic Con about hiring a hack like Lobdell to write three books, I said "You might as well hire Rob Liefeld to write three books!"

...

What have I done? :-D

Grifter also looking at the cosmic implications of the Daemonite war.

:?

DC totally missed what the Grifter character is about. I was preapred to go along with their reimagining but after seeing what's become of Daemonites in DCnU I'm done. I'm not down to just reading GL.

And this right here is the problem with the majority of the DC reboot.

They have no clue what they're doing in terms of managing their creators.

Rob Liefeld. Really, DC? .... Really??

The only thing missing is a Chuck Austen book. Wave 3, I'm sure.

Hey, is Rob Liefeld the new Anti-Monitor and sweeping cancellations through the universe of DC's multiple titles?
