Obviously you didn't read X-Force in the 90s which was one of Marvel's best X-books at the time. Plus, Liefeld was one of the founders of Image Comics back then.

X-Force was already a decline. His New Mutants stuff was decent, but X-Force became a better book when he left. He's been a one trick pony since then, with "hidden" villains that are just some copy of the main character, a bunch of generic henchmen, and mysterious characters that pop up with connection to everyone. Lather, rinse, repeat.
