Del Toro Working On Another Japanese Monster Project

Naoki Urasawa related, not kaiju.

Guillermo del Toro is working with HBO on a new pilot based on Naoki Urasawa's (20th Century Boys, Pluto) Monster manga series. del Toro will be working with Steven Thompson (Dr. Who, Sherlock) on the pilot and potential series.

Urasawa's Monster tells the story of young Dr. Konzo Tenma with a promising career. After making a controversial decision at the hospital that he works at, his status there diminished and his life goes downhill. Tenma finds that murders mysteriously start happening around him and he starts a search to find out who the "monster" is.

The original Monster manga ran from 1994 to 2001 in Shokugan's Big Comic Original. It was collected into 18 voumes and has been released translated in the USA by Viz Media. The manga had an anime adaptation (also brought to the USA by Viz) and a spin off sequel novel "Another Monster".
