Ya, but you're a fan of Community, so there's no accounting for taste, is there?
Anyways, the reason why "a lot" of straight men don't respect women is because going back as far as recorded history will allow women have been treated as inferior. That isn't an opinion that is an absolute fact.
Not if it came from America it isn't. I love you people, but with all due respect you're all completely brainwashed. From the cradle to the grave, everything you know is wrong because you are constantly lied to from two sides of a wide spectrum that would have you at war with yourselves. America has nothing to teach the world.
The same can be said of race and now sexual orientation. The only reason people are intolerant of somebody who is different than them is because somebody at some point in time decided that they were different and because they just happened to be in a higher position of power at the time, they decided that it was ok to persecute them for it.
I have no power over anyone, never had never will. My uncle is gay and I live in a country where we pride ourselves on consideration of others and where we legally allow gay marriages. I am personally indifferent to where people find happiness, but the thought of gay sex is as unappealing to me as I'm sure breeder sex is to some gay people. I guess I was born that way, so does that still make me a bad person? Should I be persecuted and vilified for tastes that are beyond my control? Seems very hypocritical to me.
I don't know how you act around your friends but I actually like my friends and they seem to like me. We don't spend our free time bullying each other. I don't know, it just doesn't seem to fit into our definition of having fun.
We obviously have different definitions of fun, but then again I'm 40 and wasn't raised in your society.
Nobody is trying to brainwash anybody into tolerating their lifestyle. People are simply trying to prevent the United States government from taking away more and more rights away from a large group of it's citizens simply because another large group of people don't understand or like them. It didn't work out well for this country when we did it in the past, I don't know why some people think it will work out well now.
Take it from someone who lives in a country that has achieved what your country cannot. You are doing it all wrong. Stop trying to convince people that homosexuality is "normal". 1 in 10 just ain't. Teach people there's no sport in making other people feel bad about themselves.
So because some people consider homosexuality to be a "deviant sexual behavior" they should just be ignored by the media and just deal with the abuse they receive from hate filled bigots?
Homosexuality is deviant sexual behavior by definition, it does not reflect the norm. If gay people are born that way, why can't they accept the fact that the rest of us aren't? Why is it Fate to be Gay and a choice to be Straight?
Nobody else is entitled to media attention, what makes 1 out of 10 gay people so special? As far as dealing with abuse from "bigots", I guess they will just have to figure out how to deal with other people's intolerances just like everyone else.
Wow, so by that logic
Oh please, you put words in people's mouth and call it logic? Now I see why you're so enamoured by Community.
So it's ok for people to persecute gay people because people bully each other time and the strong pick on the weak, smart pick on the dumb, hip pick on the square. However, it wouldn't be fair to turn that around on the people doing the persecuting. Poor racists, sexists, and bigots. They can't handle being treated in the same way that they treat others. It would hurt their poor feelings.
Next time you watch Community, turn on the captions. It will count as reading, and you need the practice brother.
Minorities need to understand that people suck. There is no sacred demographic, we cannibalize ourselves emotionally in order to bolster our self esteem. When it's just us white guys, we bust each other's balls. When it's just women, they gossip and torment each other as they vie for status. Black dudes argue about who aren't representing, intellectuals look down their noses at the uneducated, and so on.
Tolerance is unattainable, the more it is enforced, the more severe intolerance becomes. We called gay kids names in high school in the 80's, but it was unseemly to physically abuse one and unheard of to drive them to suicide. By the time we were juniors, we were all in Drama club together having a great time because we were taught to be considerate instead. We can't make people be tolerant of other people, but you can teach them to be considerate of their feelings and save the off color humor for selective audiences where nobody is going to get hurt.
