Ooooooooh. Aaaaahhhhhh. DC's iOS app is now offering comics supporting Apple's Retina Display!
iPhone and
iPad owners may want to update their
DC digital comic apps, as
DC announced today that their comics are now available in
Retina Display!!!11
So what is
Retina Display? This reporter has no idea, since I'm too poor to own a $600
iPad, so we shall consult the oracle of modern knowledge,
Wikipedia.
According to the oracle,
"The screen is marketed by Apple as the "Retina Display", based on the assertion that a display of approximately 300 ppi at a distance of 12 inches (305 mm) from one's eye, or 57 arcseconds per pixel is the maximum amount of detail that the human retina can perceive." Aha! As any former pre-press operator like this reporter knows, 300 dpi is the resolution at which most images are printed, based on that same theory, so it could be claimed that reading DC digital comics on the new
DC digital comics app for
iOS is like
having Rob Liefeld artwork beamed directly into your brain! But wait! Also
according to Wikipedia,
"Raymond Soneira, president of DisplayMate Technologies, said in an interview with Wired magazine, that the claims by Jobs are something of an exaggeration: 'It is reasonably close to being a perfect display, but Steve pushed it a little too far.'" Soneira stated that the resolution of the human retina is higher than claimed by
Apple, working out to 477 ppi at 12 inches (305 mm) from the eyes, or 36 arcseconds per pixel." Take that Steve Jobs, you lying 1%er.
Whatever the case,
DC's digital comics will now be in higher resolution on your
iPad, so
head over to the iTunes Store and update the app today.
