Five Comics I'm Looking Forward To: 4/25/2012

A look at some of the most anticipated books of the week!

I thought a good way to kick Wednesday off would be to talk about what comics we're looking forward to the most this week. Be sure to check back later this week to see if the comics lived up to the hype.

Goon391) The Goon #39: Eric Powell is no stranger to controversy. A few years ago, he released a controversial video which called for a return to creator-owned comics over licensed work with Marvel and DC. Now, he's taking on the New 52, with a parody of DC's New 52 that has been heavily pimped by Dark Horse as one of the most irreverent and hilarious comics EVVVVEEEERRRR! I'm sure this will be a hilarious and biting take on DC's recent reboot strategy.

2) Aquaman #8: Despite the minor hubbub about Johns introducing an Iranian superheroine only to kill her off four pages later, Aquaman continues to be one of the strongest of the New 52. This is Johns' best work since Sinestro Corps War and has certainly raised the bar for what people should expect out of an Aquaman comic.

3) American Vampire #25: After last week's stunning cliffhanger, American Vampire switches paces to focus on Calvin, the American Vampire inadvertently turned during Pearl's WWII excursion. While I'm dying to know what happened to Henry, I can't wait to find out what the third American Vampire has been up to since we last saw him in a military hospital shortly after he turned. Will he be a noble vampire like Pearl or have a cruel streak like Skinner?

Popeye #1: I'll admit that I'm not the biggest fan of Popeye. However, I will buy this sight unseen for the sole reason that this is written by Roger Langridge, all-ages comic extraordinaire. The man behind Thor: The Mighty Avenger, The Muppet Show, and Snarked, Langridge has never disappointed. Give Popeye a go, and while you're at it, pick up Thor: The Mighty Avenger and weep that we'll never get another issue of this fantastic, fantastic book.

Battle Scars #6: The Coulson cometh. That is all.

Last Week's Comics

1) Resident Alien #0 – Fantastic start. BUY THIS COMIC!

2) Batman #8 – A bit subpar compared to the rest of Snyder's run but still enjoyable.

3) Rocketeer Adventures #2 – Did not disappoint.

4) The Secret History of DB Cooper #2 – Very, very trippy with an unexpected twist ending.

5) Punisher #10 – Fun second chapter to the Omega Effect.

only book i get is AV and I'm somewhat put off by not knowing what happens to Henry, but that was such a great moment

Battle Scars hasn't ended yet?

I get the love, but I've never been all that entertained by an Eric Powell comic.

There was a hubbub about Aquaman?

Agent Coulson is coming to the comics? Awesome.
