Forgetting About Marvel, Disney Gives IDW An Award For Comics

IDW publishes Star Wars Adventures, DuckTales, and Mickey Mouse comics for Disney.

Source: Press Release

Disney has given an award for comics to IDW Publishing, the coveted Best New Licensee Award, which, in theory, goes to a new licensee.

The Best New Licensee Award is given to a new Disney Publishing Worldwide licensee signed in the past year, who created a new format and brought new distribution into the marketplace

Starting in 2015, IDW Publishing has released Disney comics including Mickey MouseDonald Duck, and Uncle Scrooge comics. This partnership has expanded to include other Disney properties including DuckTales, Tangled: The Series, and Big Hero 6: The Series.

IDW's biggest get from Disney is the Star Wars Adventures series, an all-ages comic telling new stories in the Star Wars universe.

Congrats to IDW for being Disney's Best "New" Licensee.

Funny. Disney buys a comic company only to have another company do their work.

You'd think publishing Disney comics would have been half the reason they bought Marvel in the first place. May as well have let Boom keep the Disney books, and Dark Horse keep the Star Wars books.

I do theorize that either Disney has stocks invested in IDW and Dark Horse alongside having Marvel under their thumb or maybe they may be setting themselves to buy them out as well very soon. Disney has been buying out a lot of properties and companies recently, so it wouldn't be surprising that they will be owning Dark Horse and Dynamite down the road.
