To be fair, no one even tried to pretend this death was going to be long-term.

So did DC when Superman died. What's your point?

That they were trying to pretend it was going to last and was important, of course!

(It was DC who started using the death of major characters as a story (and sales) gimmick Marvel have just followed suit.)

Comic deaths by themselves? Beyond the emotional reaction that some of them generate, nope.

Actual good stories that get destroyed by extraneous nonsense? Very much so.

You're like the only guy who thought Bucky was going to remain Captain America forever. Brubaker's whole plan was to bring Steve back into the role. Hell, he was planning on doing it sooner according to all accounts. Heroic Age was supposed to be his big return but he was asked if Rogers could be the Top Cop for a while.

If anything, that extended Bucky's time as Cap.

I mean, I think they killed him stupidly and everything but we all knew it was coming. I can't get THAT worked up about it. I've been reading comics too long to get too upset about that stuff.

I know. Ultimate Comics Fallout was in a bag at my LCS this week (not sure if that was the publisher, though)

There were far too many loose ends for Johnny's "death" to have lasted for very long.

* Johnny was "killed" off panel. No body in fiction pretty much guarantees no death.

* Franklin Richards has his powers back, hell, he even volunteered to create more time so that they could have figured out a way to save Johnny. For whatever reason Valeria was dead set against this idea though...in fact she seemed hell bent on things playing out the way they did.

* Lyja was left in the Negative Zone during Secret Invasion. Surely she would be aware of a new Annihilation Wave and their plans to invade Earth. Don't you think that she would have attempted to infiltrate their ranks in an attempt to get through and warn somebody? If she was there (and I strongly believe that she was) then she would have desperately attempted to save Johnny.

Anyone that thought that death "mattered" was fooling themselves. No body, no confirmation that he was dead= totally not dead. I'm surprised Doom hasn't brought up all the times in the old days they thought he was dead with no confirmation and how he always came back.

It could be just the celebration of the Fantastic Four's 50th anniversary. Doesn't necessarily mean that FF is ending.
