I don't know all that much about Alan Scott's powers.

Can somebody explain how he was Green Lantern, but his ring is not from the same source as the Green Lantern Corps?

Where does the ring come from? What exactly is it tapping into?

Thanks in advance.

Post COIE, I'm pretty sure he uses the Starheart for his powers

According to his Post-Crisis (retconned) origin, his ring is linked to the Starheart, which is a gathering of magic created by the Guardians (hence the link to the Corps).

So he got his power from the Guardians?

How come he's not part of the corps?

Are there other Green Lanterns like him?

yes and no. the power was collected by the Guardins, but they didn't actually give it to him.

see above.

and sorta. his daughter Jade got the same internalized power (although AFAIK she was never technically directly connected to the Starheart, just got mutie green plasma power) with no need for a ring. but she's dead now.

IIRC, he got them from a meteor - he's the magical GL, and therefore not part of the Corps. Also, there are no others like him.

Of course, all this is just a way around the fact that there was no GLC in the original Earth 2 universe...

Couldn't Jade share her power with her dad? Cuz I think she did in Princes of Darkness

true. but i don't think that really disputes what i said originally. she got her power genetically from him, so they could share, but i'm pretty sure she was never as powerful as Alan b/c she didn't directly channel the Starheart itself.

but then, i could be WAY off-base here...

Yeah, I was just wondering.
She wasn't nearly as powerful

I believe the idea of the Guardians collecting up all the magic in their neck of the words and shipping it out of their reality predates COIE.

Great Scott!!!

Originally, a meteor fell to earth, and whispered a prophecy. The prophecy went along the lines of the first person to use the meteor would get rich/good, 2nd death/bad, and the 3rd power. Shows a couple of back stories like a Chinese man dying from it, etc.

Eventually, the meteor is carved into a green lantern, and placed on a train. Alan Scott was working on a train, something happened, he was the only one that survived because of the lantern, the lantern gave him power, and he became Green Lantern.

That was his original origin, or something along those lines. This origin is from the early 40s.

It does, but not Alan Scott's connection to it.

So is it theoretically possible that another similar ring could be created and given to someone?

well, that's the thing, Alan's power doesn't actually come from a ring anymore; it's internalized within him. he just makes himself a ring to use as a channel for the power/somewhat reminder of simpler times.
