Gregg Hurwitz puts the "scare" back into the Scarecrow

Postby LOLtron » Tue Jun 26, 2012 10:29 am

Gregg Hurwitz puts the Meet the Nu52 Scarecrow

After giving us a new look at the Penguin in "Penguin: Pain and Prejudice", Gregg Hurwitz teams up with artist David Finch to now take on the Scarecrow in this week's "Batman: The Dark Knight" #10

Hurwitz is promising that this arc will be thrilling and action-filled. as well as intensely psychological. The psychology aspect of Batman has been explored in the past but Hurwitz hopes to take a different slant by exploring Batman's motivations and fears and comparing those to the same aspects of Scarecrow and what drove Scarecrow to become the person he is today. His professional training as a Psychologist will come into play as Scarecrow attempts to delve into and analyze the inner workings of Batman and how the Dark Knight himself uses fear as a weapon. The Scarecrow will also have a new and interesting weapon that we'll get to see in play almost immediately.

Scarecrow and Batman will be viewed as actually having more in common than Bruce has with most of his other rogues, almost like 2 sides of the same coin. This "dark reflection" is the basis for the cover to issue #10.

Hurwitz also gives artist David Finch plenty of room to demonstrate his strong pencilling and promises us some of Finch's best work to date.

Batman: The Dark Knight #10 goes on sale this Wednesday, June 27, and according to the DC Comics solicitation "this isn't about fear...it's about TERROR!"

Really hoping this is great. Finch is such a good artist for a certain style of Batman story, it's high time that he get a good script.

Dark Knight has been such a disaster up until this point. I have high expectations for this run, though. Before I heard that Hurwitz was coming on board, I was ready to drop this title. Now I can't wait to go to my LCS and pick TDK up right after lunch. I hope I'm not disappointed. This take on Scarecrow and Batman sounds like it could be a heck of a ride.

I read it. It was excellent, the Batman book I've wanted for a while.

Hopefully it's more about 'scare' than it is 'gore'.

Excellent. The last two issues have been really good, here's hoping the quality remains high.

As I said before, it's great having a Batman book I can actually enjoy.

I liked the first issue quite a bit, but for whatever reason I didn't really care for the second. If I'm not feeling the third, it's done for me.

If I had realized Hurwitz was coming on board with this sort of take earlier, I'd have subscribed during the Tanga sale. Maybe I'll just shift one of my subs over to this soon.
