That was the original Drax. The current Drax was resurrected from the original Drax. He is slimmer than the original Drax and his mind is closer to that of his human form, Arthur Douglas.

I've always been a street level superhero fan (Daredevil, Spidey, Captain America) and only occasionally got the space stuff... so other than names I know little about most of the characters in the GotG.

The girl is Gamora, known as the most dangerous woman in the universe as well as the adopted daughter of Thanos. And since she's been a sometime love interest of Rich Rider, he better return soon or heads might roll.

Just before the first Annihilation there was a short Drax miniseries. His whole death and resurrection happened during that mini.

Bug was brought back during the Annihilation Conquest Star-Lord miniseries when he was forced to join Star-Lord's suicide squad. Later on he joined the Guardians of the Galaxy.
