Hasbro to Fight Warner Bros. for Rights to 'Dungeons & Dragons'

Who would have thought after the embarrassing movie over a decade ago people would actually be fighting over the rights to the franchise.

We previously reported that Warner Brothers was developing a D&D movie being scripted by Leslie Johnson, the man behind Wrath of the Titans, but Deadline is now reporting that Hasbro has stepped forward, claiming it has rights to Dungeons and Dragons and that they have a project at Universal in development, saying:

Hasbro owns the intellectual property rights to Dungeons & Dragons, period, because of Hasbro’s acquisition of Wizards Of The Coast in 1998.

Apparently this has come up before and Courtney Solomon, the director of the first D&D movie and a producer of the Warner Bros. vehicle, was proven to hold the underlying rights for the movie.

But, as it stands, development for a movie could get delayed as studios prepare to do legal battle.  Personally, I think they should be required to present the directors attached and the scripts and a judge should just decide which movie will turn out better and award them the rights.  Sure, it will set a legal precident, but we can't be subjected to another piece of crap with the D&D name slapped on it again.
