Hawkeye #017

Ugh.

Don't read it.

The ending of last issue was not touched on. Instead, it's a random Christmas issue with cartoon dogs.

I kid you not.

We knew this, though. Aja isn't back until #19.

Aja is one thing.

A full issue focusing on a Christmas cartoon about dogs is an entirely different subject.

Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to read this issue yet but I will say that while it may seem like nothing now, I'm sure that it will connect to the main narrative eventually. Fraction has been firing on all cylinders during the entirety of this run and I'm sure that he wouldn't just totally check out for one issue.

Why do you hate Christmas?

And Dogs?!

It's not like the cover really portrayed what was in the issue... it felt like a bait-and-switch.

And, while I'm not opposed to Christmas nor dogs (but 20 pages of them together was a bit much), it's particularly jarring when you pick up the book looking for some resolution for last issue's surprise ending (and Moment of the Week, IIRC) and, instead, you get 20 pages of a Christmas cartoon about dogs.

It would be like picking up the latest issue of Superior Spider-Man looking for more Goblin action and instead getting 20 pages of My Little Pony-like action.

HAWKEYE #17

MATT FRACTION (W) • DAVID AJA (A/C)
"Rio Bravo" - PART 4
• The sense-shattering fallout of the Clint vs. the Clown -- Clint Barton has been deafened!
• With the Barton Brothers this battered and bloodied, surely they'll make easy pickins for the Bros, right? Bro? Seriously?
• If we do our jobs right THIS time, this issue will be the Dog Issue of Sign Language issues.
32 PGS./Rated T+ ...$2.99

This issue was a joke right?

A joke on us.

The fault is on Marvel's part. When they had to reconfigure the schedule Fraction himself clarified that this issue was going to be what it was.

You can be angry at whatever junior editor was tasked with writing the copy. :smt102

HAWKEYE #18
MATT FRACTION (W) • CHRIS ELIOPOLOUS (A)
Cover by DAVID AJA
• Who could forget that time when Clint Barton let his neighbor’s kids watched a holiday cartoon at his place?
• At long last THIS ISSUE is pretty much the cartoon they all watch. YOU’RE WELCOME.
• A very special holiday HAWKGUY that at long last lets legendary letterer CHRIS ELIOPOLOUS flex his astounding cartooning muscles in our pages. Matt and Matt do their regular jobs though. Maybe David will letter it? Probably not.
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$2.99

They had to swap 18 and 17 round, due to Aja's delays but they did let us know.

Blame Devin Lewis  , he's the assistant editor now

But you can't blame Wacker anymore because he's a "hawkguy no more"
