It was probably not the best idea for Dennis Hopeless to do this….
Source: twitter.com/HopelessDent Avengers Arena writer, Dennis Hopeless, has received a lot of flak for his Avengers Arena, a new series pitting teenage heroes against each other in a Hunger Games type of setting, but not enough it seems as he has created an email address for the book. He posted on twitter:
Okay, I made an email address for the Avengers Arena letters column: hopelessarena (at) gmail (dot) com. Make sure to say "okay to print."
Hundreds of Tumblr users are already hating on the series, a full two months before it hits stores, due to a preview image that shows X-23 attacking Hazmat, a supposedly popular character in the canceled Avengers Academy. Fans have jumped to the conclusion that Hazmat will be killed by X-23, as every character ever shown in mortal danger in a preview page has always died. But, an entire blog site devoted to hating Hopeless (and homoerotic images of Thor and Kid Loki) isn’t enough for Marvel’s newest masochistic writer, so he’s made it easier to communicate directly with him.
The really bad part of this is the fact that nowhere in the tweet did he specify that the emails had to be nice or even about Avengers Arena. Now, The Outhouse – the last bastion of civil discourse on the internet – would never suggest that our readers troll the email address with questions about Star Wars, soy beans, health issues, or even how out of character everyone was in AvX. No, that would be inappropriate and juvenile.
Rather, you might want to ask how, after The Heroic Age, The Avengers lost track of most of their kids? I mean really, why are most of the Young Avengers, Academy students, and Initiative members stuck in Thunderdome without any adult noticing? How the hell does that work?
Of course, if you believe what Tumblr says, Hopeless is just a friendless, bitter man who looks to destroy what others love to fill the empty void in his heart. While we're not sure that's true, we do hope that Hopeless is able to read a positive email about his book sometime in the next few months.
