I think sequels and prequels, more often than not, tend to water down the original. The more of it that gets pumped out, the less special it seems. Particularly when the original creators aren't involved. I think some things should just be appreciated for what they are instead of milking every cent possible. I understand that DC is a business and this will surely make a lot of money, but it also demonstrates their lack of vision creatively. And I think in the long run, that hurts them as a business. I'd rather see Darwyn Cooke do something innovative and new instead of this.

Has Darwyn Cooke ever done anything new or original? I love the guy's work, but it's always about going back to the past and re-doing something old.

For some reason I'm surprised this news has had such an impact.

I'm not saying I'm surprised it has had any impact or some impact, but so many threads and such bitterness already before the books are out, yes a little bit surprised. :smt102

I guess the backlash against Alan Moore and Watchmen just doesn't compute because I'm a big fan of him. It's not like I'm reading or writing theses about the book's importance or anything, because I'm just a fan of his stuff and that sort of thing can ruin your enjoyment of something.

I guess the use of the properties doesn't shock me either, and I don't see how it would ever change my impression of the Moore book. Christian already underscored the tip of the iceberg of reconstituted literary hash.

The backlash has made me want to buy them, though, when do they come out?

I'm surprised at all of the Moore and Watchmen-bashers coming out of the woodwork too, it saddens and angers me to see so many people bashing something so good.

I'm with you on this
The use of the properties won't effect my enjoyment just like Lost Girls didn't effect how much I enjoy Through The Looking Glass or how the Fame re-make effected how much WIFE loves the original
Just because fans elevated Watchmen above any other work of fiction writing ever doesn't mean that it is, and just because there are new books doesn't mean I have to pay any attention to them.

They may turn out to be good and entertaining - like most of the new Dune books
They may turn out to be horrid like BB5 season 5
or, and most likely, I won't read them, like the new Foundation books

Good article Blue.

I find the reaction to this news continually entertaining. That people are using "they're strip mining the past and shitting on it" arguments with Watchmen of all things is pretty hilarious.
