Irish Newspaper Claims Obi-Wan To Film In Belfast In 2019

Also, that Ewan McGregor will reprise the titular role.

Source: Belfast Telegraph

According to the Belfast Telegraph, filming on the unconfirmed Obi-Wan Kenobi solo film will begin in 2019. The Irish news outlet reports that George Lucas was seen scouting locations in the city last November. The paper also claims that Ewan McGregor will reprise the titular role.

Staff at the city's Paint Hall studios have reportedly been told that once production on the final season of Game of Thrones has finished, they'll start working on Obi-Wan. Lucas was reportedly impressed by the studios as well.

Disney and Lucasfilm hasn't confirmed a standalone Obi-Wan Kenobi film yet, but the film has been rumored for some time now.

A mate of mine who works as an extra on Game of Thrones in Northern Ireland told me yesterday that the set design and paint teams were all lined up for "something star wars"

So... Star Wars movie #18? #21?

Episode I : The Phantom Menace
Episode II : Attack of the Clones
Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
Clone Wars (animated "movie")
Kenobi
Solo
Rogue One
Episode IV : A New Hope
Episode V : The Empire Strikes Back
Episode VI : Return of the Jedi
Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure (does this still count?)
Ewoks: The Battle for Endor (does this still count?)
Episode VII : The Force Awakens
Episode VIII : The Last Jedi
Episode VIII:
Untitled Johnson movie #1
Untitled Johnson movie #2
Untitled Johnson movie #3
Untitled "Game of Thrones" movie #1
Untitled "Game of Thrones" movie #2
Untitled "Game of Thrones" movie #3

Either way, it's a lot.

I can maybe buy the main story, but McGregor? Isn't he over a decade older than when he first took up the role, and wouldn't he be playing an even younger Obi-Wan? And wouldn't this also have to involve an also much older Liam Neeson, whatever the particular skill he brings to the table?

And the fans will complain until they get in their seats to watch the movie. :smt005

The young Obi-Wan and his master fighting Darth Maul may be my favorite characters and scenes in all the films and I saw A New Hope at the theater.

I'm assuming this will take place after the Prequels, where the twin suns of Tattooine are helping Obi Wan Kenobi transition to more of an Alec Guinness look. 8)

Yeah it makes a the most sense. Maybe de-age him a little and show him escaping generic fire planet #6?

Ah, good point, hadn't considered that, in fact, I had immediately thought the opposite. Which doesn't make much sense, but there it is.

If McGregor can do it, I might like to see him starring in a remake of Kind Hearts and Coronets.

My original hope was that Rey was going to be revealed as a Kenobi (or maybe the daughter of Luke and the granddaughter of Obi Wan), with this filling in the holes in the story, but I guess not.

I'm looking forward to seeing Ewan McGregor again as Obi Wan but, right now, this feels about as unnecessary as Solo. :(

If Rey is not related to Darth Vader, her power level doesn't make sense.

Not if she is related to Yoda. I wouldn't doubt it if he got around back in the day.
