Opponents of the Comixology method are crowing now.
JManga, the DRM driven digital distributor of manga, is shutting down its retail and viewing services on May 30th. This means that any digital manga "purchased" via the service will be pulled from users' accounts, never to be seen again.
Of course, as every freakin' website has pointed out, this is the big flaw of the "Comixology" model, in which you're basically paying to view, but not own, digital comics. Technology companies have relatively short lifespans and if they shut down, users can find themselves with significantly smaller bank accounts with nothing to show for it.
If only there were an easy solution to this, one that would allow users to download a comic and actually own a digital file instead of paying a fee to view a file hosted on a third party's server....
Oh well, I look forward to the good folk at Comixology saying that they're not JManga and won't be shutting down anytime soon, which is true.
