Meanwhile, Invincible Presents :Atom Eve/Rex Splode has been a disaster (and hopelessly late, I should point out). Walking Dead sells...poorly, compared to the Vertigo books we order similar numbers of (its a decent trade shifter though)

"Not where I work" as an indication that a book's overall sales aren't doing well? You're a moron. Also! Jeph Loeb is just a terrible writer in general. Did anyone read his recent Hulk run?

I didn't know comics were fattening, must remember this next time I have the urge to eat one.

all I know is that the stores I shop at (only an 'n' of 3) if I want the latest Walking Dead or Invincible trades I usually have to call a head to make sure they have it, and usually they are sold out. Whereas I know that I can walk in and 9 times out of 10 they will have plenty of any Vertigo trades that I am looking for. Each of these stores have told me that, especially Walking Dead, keeping those trades in stock is one of the hardest things to do because they sell so well and people are always happy when they see one they haven't read yet.

I'm pretty sure I've STRONGLY stated that I've never expressed my opinion on ANY book to a customer unless they're (a) a regular who I know well enough to shoot with about comics

(b) - the other staff, who know full well what I likes and dont like... (the Boss, for instance, dislikes Erik Larsen intently, for reasons I'm not sure of, but we never seem to have any copies of Savage Dragon - not anyone ever asks for it)

Walking Dead sells more than any ongoing Vertigo title

We sell more Fables that any indy book I can think of. Turf is doing pretty well this weekend, but thats because Johnathon Ross is a big name over here.

NO FUCKING SHIT. Invincible is an indie book featuring a new character.

Invincible is a thinly disguised ripoff of Superboy and Spider-Man, a SUPERHERO book should sell better in a comic book shop, doncha think?

Me, duh. all the singles (because I get first dibs on variants), and then the Hardcovers for my shelves. It's Ed McGuinness, Ian Churchill and Whilce Portacio, you think I'm not interested in it? Also talking about "Who the Red Hulk is" is enormous fun (especially with an added sweepstakes involved)

Then you are doing a disservice to your customers, and the shop... recommendations work. And are the only way to improve sales for the store (first and foremost) and for the titles you like.

No, I suspect good titles sell better or ones that the sales staff believes in.[/quote]

I now picture "The Boss" as an older, nicer dressing version of The Bass, with all of his hatred directed at Erik Larson instead of Fat Bob.

We really need to organize a meeting between Fat Bob and The Bass. Perhaps in a dual interview situation.

I do like his comics but I feel the same way about Kirkman, not as strongly though. Calling him fat is really rude.

Didn't Loeb write a creator owned book with Michael Turner?

Sorry, I should rephrase that - I don't let my negative opinions of creators get in the way of recommending books. I hate Chris Claremont, but I'd still push his old x-men stuff (did yesterday, actually)

The Boss has awesome hair which I'm intently jealous of, and a well maintained beard.

5'9 and 12 stone 8-ish pounds, which I think is a little under eighty kilos. I freely admit I eat like a slob, and I eat crap, but I keep fit. My previous job was running a fresh produce department in a supermarket, which kept me superfit, and now I'm standing at a counter for long periods of time - I'm not as slim as I was.

Fun conversation.

Doesn't count in Kirkman's addled little mind unless Image (and, by consequence, Kirkman,) is making money from it.

funny, since again, in the quote you are on rampage about, Kirkman says let him do it at Icon (WHICH IS MARVEL)

Which, funnily enough, brings me to another of my favourite "How Incompetent Are They At Image"

Kick Ass - Sells BILLIONS (got 20 copies in of the hardcover in on Thursday, been out for a month, still sells out by 4 o'clock today. Icon book.

War Heroes: Total shit, has been abandoned without trace, no one cares. Image book.
