Similar to the cosmic reading list thread, but not because someone asked for it - just for fun. If someone wanted to start with Avengers Disassembled and follow that storyline through Civil War and all the way up to Siege, what would they have to read and in what order?

Events alone, you'd have to go through:

Avengers: Disassembled
House of M
Civil War
Secret Invasion
Dark Reign
Siege

I think along the way you'd also need to read:

New Avengers
Mighty Avengers pre-Slott
Dark Avengers
Secret Warriors

You'd probably want to read:

Ms. Marvel
Mighty Avengers with Slott
Avengers: The Initiative

What else? What from before Disassembled is required? The Sentry mini?

I'd maybe add Thor to this as a must read list.

I'd add Ares to these and they're optional.

I really think you could do without the Hulk stuff, or at least put it on the optional list.

It's optional, but it does spin out of the Illuminati one-shot, so if you read that for Civil War, your interest may be piqued.

For some of Civil War to make sense, you would have to read Amazing Spider-Man from the issue that he moved into the Avengers Tower till the end of the war. Without it, Tony's and Peter's actions don't make as much sense in the Civil War books.

I would also add the first Sentry mini, at least to get a sense of scope with his mania, the Void, and how Reed Richards fits into all of it. The second Sentry mini (Jenkins+JRjr) is less important.

If you really wanted to be thorough? BKV's Hood miniseries from 02, Young Avengers vols 1 + 2...um, Alias if you care about Jessica Effing Jones...and the first volume of The Pulse ('Thin Air') where Luke Cage of all the fucking people unmasks Norman in public. The upside is seeing Norman at his non-Gwen-killing battiest, almost blowing Jessica Jones away. If that's your thing, then it's worth it.

I haven't read it personally but Secret War would probably have to be placed on this list if only on the optional list.

Thunderbolts post-Civil War.

Amazing Spidey from the point where he joined the New Avengers. There's an arc or two that focuses on the New Avengers and the Civil War tie-ins are pretty essential during Civil War.

The Dark Avengers/ Uncanny X-Men crossover Utopia. This could actually be considered optional but it DOES lead into the List comics.

Which brings us to the Dark Reign: The List one-shots. The Avengers one in particular relates to the New Avengers storyline and leads right into the New Avengers Annual #3.

Amazing Spider-Man American Son story. Optional but pretty damn good.

Young Avengers. Optional.

Civil War: The Confession. This is optional but is a good bookend for Civil War. As long as we're including this, we'd need to read Cap #25 before reading it.

That's all I can think of for now. There's lots more. This could get out of control quickly. :)

You need to add Secret War to that list. It was the catalyst for the ousting of Fury from SHIELD and ties in with Secret Invasion.

This is what personally I would recommend:

Secret War 1-5
Avengers Dissasembled
New Avengers to House of M
House of M - Including the Pulse issue 7 when you get to issue 5 of the event.
New Avenvgers past House of M to Civil War
New Avengers the Illuminati (I think the first annual might fall around here)
World War Hulk
New Avengers Annual 2
Civil War including the Spider-man tie ins, New Avengers tie ins and Captain America 25
Thunderbolts post Civil War for Ellis 12 issue run
New Avengers post Civil War
Mighty Avengers up to Secret Invasion
Secret Invasion and the tie ins in Avengers
After Secret invasion New Avengers and Dark Avengers
The New Avengers third annual annual, and Dark Avengers annual
The Dark Reign one shot
Invincible Iron Man (definitely worlds most wanted, and the arc that just followed)
Thor (reading all of this)
Siege: The Cabal
Siege

Other issues I like reading related to it:

Sentrys first mini. And the second mini
Hoods mini
Marvel Boy mini
Avengers: The Initiative, especially the lead up till Siege
The rest of the Pulse
The Frontline series.
