Exactly. I even knew from the cover of him with him losing one eye and him shaving his head where this was sadly going to go. I did like that his friend was the 616 Phil Coulson though.

I think bringin in Coulson is cool too.

It's just sad that they couldn't come up with a less hackneyed way of making Nick Fury black than this.

Still doesn't if you read the last issue.

It was stupid how at the end he became the spitting image of SLJ Fury, but it was a well written mini which gave us a great character with a ton of potential.

And to be frank, a "fuck you" is exactly what fans need sometimes. If you want to plumb the depths of nostalgia instead of getting something new then go read a Geoff Johns book.

I personally am not mad about Marvel trying to cater to the movie fans but this whole thing felt very shoe-horned and forced and defies common logic. Are we supposed to believe that Marcus would just take the name of his absentee father who he never knew about until recently and and then be promoted to SHIELD head despite having no experience in the organization? Plus, having him lose his eye like his dad did and making him resemble the Ultimate version of his father was just unoriginal and silly. If they want us to accept Fury's bastard son then make us accept him as how he was presented without molding him into a replacement character for his dad. Why not follow upon Marcus staying as a ranger as Marvel doesn't have many books on characters serving on the frontlines and try to have him grow outside of his dad's shadow? That would get me hooked personally.
This debacle is as plausible as the Secret Invasion idiocy where Norman Osborn got promoted to Secretary Of State after shooting the Skrull Queen despite the fact he is an evil sociopath.

Did any of you people actually read the book? So far he hasn't taken the name; Daisy and Coulson called him that and he bristled. He answers to Daisy so far, he's not the head of SHIELD yet.

Now sure, he will be Fury. And he'll probably advance soon. But it's not AS forced as you're saying. They're doing as best they can to allow for growth and respect old Fury and his fans without just completely pulling an exact switch right out of the gate.

I think Nick Fury will be a code name. Fury IS still a fugitive since Secret War isn't he?

But that's not a particularly strong concept. Look how fast DC's Men of War went down the shitter. Or just about any other war comic of recent years.

My disdain for Ultimate Nick Fury(or Samuel L Fury as I call him) may well be known by now
and I am wasn't pleased to see him shoved down our throats in the Marvel movies and cartoons. That said I am at least grateful that he wasn't just introduced by "magically" transforming current Nick into Sammy Fury.As least my mind can now be at peace to see Sam L Jackson as Col. Fury.
P.S:I would rather had him call himself "Marcus Fury" but whatever.

Again I respectfully disagree with you for the most part. As I said before, why just introduce him as Marcus the army ranger only to then have him just join SHIELD at the end of the book? Plus, the fact that he looks so similar to Ultimate Fury after losing his eye screams forced editorial mandate. And like I said before it would make no sense for his mother to have put Nick Fury Sr on his birth certificate and then name him something else for most of his life. Even if Marcus hopefully doesn't take the name of his father yet, the writers will take most likely take him in that direction and expect the readers to just accept it. Plus if they are not pulling a switch like you claim why did they have Fury Sr. just lose the Infinity Serum that keeps him young as Fury Jr. is now in the spotlight? I am still hoping soon that Fury Sr. gets back the serum and that Marcus goes back to being Marcus and grow back his hair and have his eye healed so we can burn the image of Ultimate Fury out of the 616 universe.

It doesn't have to be an ongoing series but a limited series in that case. Plus, they could have Marcus as an army ranger work with SHIELD and other organizations. It would be interesting to see how an ordinary guy who is not a super-hero co-exist in a world full of super-humans. We usually see perspectives from super-heroes in the Marvel-verse but we rarely see perspectives from normal characters and that's how Marcus could fit in. Don't just bring a new character in just to have him be a replacement character for an established one as that is getting old now.

Hmmm, so how would you feel if they replaced 616 Peter Parker with a new character that happened to be the 616 version of Miles Morales coincidentally? I wouldn't put it past Marvel to try that stunt down the road.

What exactly would be a "less hackneyed way of turning him black"?

take a lot of tanning pills like Soul Man? Going through a machine like Lois Lane in the 50s? "it's magic, bitch"?

Look I have agreed with you guys all along that I don't like the idea that "we need a black Fury" just to match the movie. But I see why Marvel's doing it. And I think good things can come from it. And honestly, they executed it about as well as you possibly could. Taken on its own, beyond the reasoning behind it, Battle Scars was a fun, well-written mini, that at least chose the least-stupid method of "replacement". There were no alternate dimensions, no magic, no clones, not even any LMDs. Just an illegitimate kid who was basically put in the SHIELD equivalent of witness protection from birth. Disagree if you want, but I buy that as perfectly logical

Lois was black in 1970. I sincerely doubt any comic book company would have been that brave in the 50s
It actually wasn't a bad story. You can read the entire thing here:
