Marvel Mogul Stan Lee Dead At 95

Lee is best known for co-creating Spider-Man, the X-Men, and Stripperella.

Stan Lee, co-creator of the best known Marvel Comics characters including X-MenFantastic FourIncredible HulkSpider-ManIron Man, and Thor, alongside collaborators Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, has died at the age of 95.

The former Editor-in-Chief, Publisher, Chairman, and Chairman Emeritus, had been involved with Marvel since its early days as Timely Publications and Atlas Comics. It was there that Stanley Lieber adopted the pen name Stan Lee, in order to save his given name for more literary works.

Beyond co-creating classic characters, Lee included creator credits on the splash pages of comics and challenged the Comics Code Authority after having Harry Osborn pop pills in 1971. He was the driving factor behind the Marvel Method of writing, where he would give an artist a rough outline or summary of an issue and the artist would draw based on that, leaving Lee to dialogue after the issue was drawn. This led to issues with Kirby and Ditko regarding the distribution of labor behind the comics.

Lee is best known by the majority of the public for his various cameos throughout modern Marvel movies, stemming from a lawsuit with Marvel.

Lee's last few years were muddied with issues stemming from having his blood stolen to being accused of sexual abuse to being held captive.

Rest in power, Stan.

He was on in years, so this shouldn't be overly surprising. Still, though...very sad. Sad enough that I want to punch someone in retribution.

RIP, Stan.

Or maybe one of the really weird ones, like "Zam" or "Chuff" or "chock" or something.

Have they ever done a comic book biography of him? It'd probably be pretty good; he had himself a hell of a life.
