Ninjak Returns at Valiant Comics

Postby LOLtron » Tue Jun 12, 2012 10:51 am

Ninjak Returns at Valiant ComicsThe nineties are back! It's like 1994 all over again, baby!

Thanks to DC hiring everybody who was anybody in the nineties to create their nu52 reboot last year, a nineties comics revival seems to have kicked off in the industry. Aside from the nineties lovefest going on in the DCnU, there's a revival of Rob Liefeld's Extreme! properties at Image and even a relaunch of the Valiant universe! The latest teaser from Valiant is for Ninjak, a very popular character in 1994 who first appeared in the equally-hilariously-nineties-titled comic Bloodshot.

For fans like this reporter who may have missed out on the nineties era of comic books due to doing unimportant stuff like talking to girls, this is a second chance to experience the decade in all its grim and gritty, pouch-covered, foil-variant-laden glory. For more virginal fanboys, it's a chance to bitch about the downfall of the industry all over again. Check out the teaser below:

Well so far I've read Harbinger 1 and the two X-O Manowar issues and I'm impressed with what they've done. Don't knock the Valiant revival. The books are selling well.

I can't speak about the quality of the issues, but the sales numbers are complete crap. They pulled a Platinum Studios and bought the numbers they ordered themselves.

It was a Twitter thing. BC reported it a bit. This thread kind of explains it with a bit of a slant.

Liefeld got butthurt, but there was some truth to what he was saying.

Valiant apparently promised retailers that ordered 200 copies that they would be reimbursed for 175 of them.

Ninjak is sort of when the original Valiant started to suck. I was hoping they wouldn't bring him back. I'd rather read Eternal Warrior.

Read through the thread, I'd like to see some independent confirmation.

Eternal Warrior is the fifth book coming out. :D

Ninjak suffered immensely from inconsistent art and writer teams. I was flipping through my Ninjaks and it seemed like every third issue something would change.

I liked Ninjak! Not Acclaim Ninjak, Acclaim anything sucked. But early pre-20s issues Valiant Ninjak.

But I also want Shadowman back...

And maybe Dr. Mirage, Timewalker, and Geomancer.

I'm ok with Harbinger...nothing special, but I never thought the original was super to begin with. X-O is fun as it ever was, I'm actually looking forward to Bloodshot, and I think Archer and Armstrong will be a blast. Ninjak? Oy, I agree that title came out right when I was dropping Valient books. What next? Deathmate? (Obviously not. Right? Hello???)

I loved Acclaim Shadowman. Both versions were excellent but I think I liked the badass Michael LeRoi a little more.
