NYCC: Marvel Announces Loki: Agent of Asgard Series

Al Ewing and Lee Garbett will produce the new Marvel series.

Source: Comics Beat

Marvel announced a new Loki: Agent of Asgard series, written by Al Ewing with art by Lee Garbett.  The series will feature a now grown up Loki completing undercover missions on Asgard's behalf.  The first issue will see him break into Avengers Towers for some reason.  Other details are scant thus far, but the idea seems pretty intriguing, so count me in.

Hope this doesn't mean Kid Loki is gone for good:(

A pity Gillen won't be writing him any longer.

If this is a limited series I'll probably get it. I don't think I'm interested in this concept as an ongoing series.

I'm in. Actually, pretty much everything Marvel have announced so far has sounded like a lot of fun.

Good news, Al Ewing is great and Gillen's Kid Loki is really annoying at this point.

Some new details now:

Responding on his blog to a fan’s questions, writer Al Ewing reveals that in the new series the god of mischief’s gender and sexuality will be fluid. “Yes, Loki is bi and I’ll be touching on that,” he wrote last night. “He’ll shift between genders occasionally as well.”

CBR has the story.

Out of curiosity, and because I really don't want to have to go through all of my copies of Journey into Mystery or Young Avengers, is the bolded part something that has been a part of Loki's background since returning from death or is this something Ewing is introducing?

Well, he was a woman in JMS' run, so there's that, and in the original Norse mythology, Loki fucked a horse, so being bi is light compared to that.

I'm well aware of all that and it's not like I have an issue with him being bisexual (unless it's done like the moloid's transgender thing in FF, which to me just seemed out of nowhere and served no purpose other than to have a transgender character in a Marvel comic).

I was just asking if this is going to be a new addition or if I had just forgotten about it from an earlier issue.

I'm almost less irked by the going evil than by him-getting-a-solo-book. Which I'm kind of assuming means no character development for him in YA going forward.
