I just think it's a bad thing that almost everything announced at the Con was a spin-off of either Fables or Sandman. Where are the new ideas?
As I said, they have just launched The Unwritten, Sweet Tooth, American Vampire and iZombie in quick succession, so I can forgive them a gap, but it's not promising.
You act as if every book out at Vertigo right now is Fables..
There's two ongoings, dealing with completely different aspects of the Fables-verse and there's a mini-series.
And obviously people like it, otherwise we wouldn't have these. Like you said, they've launched several great books. Launching any book is risky, but especially so with something like Vertigo where you're not even working with established characters.
So I'd think, after launching all those good "new idea" books, they like to go back to something established which they consider more of a sure thing.
It makes sense.
