OMD/OMIT question

Postby BubbaKanoosh » Sat May 19, 2012 10:10 pm

Would the the Spider-man stories published now be better (or suck just as much as they do now, if you ask some) if those stories never happened?

Would Spider Island be more enjoyable if Peter and MJ still married?

Yes, the two mentioned in the title were pointless but has it effected the overall quality of the books that much?

Spider-Man is better now than while he was married, so no to both.

I hope they kill off MJ for good soon. Terrible character. They should Sue Dibny/Lizard her. Do we know if Jean Loring had sex with Sue's corpse before setting her on fire?

It depends. If Dan Slott was writing a married Spider-Man, it would still probably suck nuts.

Omd isn't that awful. But I do prefer mj with Pete. Great twist would be them getting together again

Frankly,I didn't see any improvement in the quality of the Spiderman comics after OMD.

I think they would have been just as good.

The parts I liked (such as Spidey actually using his brains to take over the Spider Slayers and win) didn't tie into MJ all that much.

I enjoy it without the marriage. While we could get the same Spider-Man stories when he was married it's the Peter Parker side that's finally getting some depth now that it's free from the marriage.

Most of the stories in terms of the villain fights would have been the same if he'd still been married, but I like that the series has brought back Peter's relationship troubles as a running subplot. It's fun seeing him with new people like Carlie Cooper.

I also like the return of his relationship with Black Cat, there a couple of stories we've had recently that wouldn't have worked if Peter was married and therefore couldn't sleep with or have feelings for Felicia.

I feel bad for Pete when he's stuck with an ugly, dyke bitch like Carlie cooper, while actual sexy and cool single female characters like mary jane are around. Not to mention how wimpy, nerdy, passive and submissive they made Pete in his relationship with Cooper. It's embarrassing.

I'll continue to maintain my stance that the last few years of Spider-man being good is the result of things other than Peter's marriage magically being erased. The book got good because Marvel realized it was dragging and got a great editor, a good group of writers, and some of their best artists to work on the book. The Carlie relationship ultimately wasn't that interesting or essential to the main through line of the book, so the only thing MJ and Pete being married would have mucked up was him bottoming out right before Big Time. I think that could have been handled with a heartfelt "taking some space" convo between them rather than devil magic.

I think Joe Q's reasons for wanting it were bullshit, and nonsensical. Peter doesn't appear younger and hipper because of it. The kind of stories they tell hasn't changed - just the quality of them, which as was said, could've been done before if they got a braintrust of writers together and a great editor to oversee the book.. and they could've easily done the 2/3x a month thing before too, which has helped, as they can focus their story over more issues per month rather than just one, and cover more ground in the process.

And what's the point of breaking Peter and MJ up via magic if you're still going to have MJ hovering around like a lovesick puppy in the books? It's painfully obvious they are building to some sort of reunion.. if not, it's just pathetic and a waste of her character to keep hanging around and yelling "go get 'em, Tiger!" everytime she sees Spider-Man swing into action.

Pete and MJ will get together. It might not happen for a while, but it will happen. Why is this story development an inevitability? Because it will generate hype and boost sales. And Marvel will be able to turn the reunion into a mini event and produce superfluous books that chronicle MJ's wedding plans and all kinds of other nonsense that the company can sell for $3.99 an issue.

I feel that the quality of Spider-Man stories has generally improved since OMD but that it was unnecessary to retcon the Spider-Marriage.

I do feel that the Spider-Marriage meant that many writers felt that they had to focus on MJ instead of Peter's other supporting cast members. Being married meant that Peter wasn't perpetually one month away from being homeless or have roommate issues or any of that jazz.

To be fair tho, aren't you that guy from the Spider-Man Crawlspace who month-in-and-month-out writes the review where you just crap all over every issue no matter what?
Seriously, when do you open ANY issue I write WITHOUT the attitude of "THIS IS GOING TO SUCK!"?
