Moreover, a 99 cent model for the digital copy conflicts with the sale models for other digital releases. Although they are often slightly less expensive (as Apache Chef pointed out in another thread), neither ebooks or digital albums are 1/3 the cost of their physical counterparts. Why should comics be the exception?
One would hope that digital comics will one day be slightly less than their physical counterparts, but we will have to see how it goes for DC come September.
What about a "two months after release, drop to 99 cents?"
I saw one guy on the 'Rama make a really coherent argument for why they should be 99 cents, but I understand what you're saying, too. At the same time, that guy said, "You can have me buy five books for five bucks, or you can have me buy no books for no bucks."
Now, don't get me wrong: I understand a 99 cent day of release isn't possible. But at some point, I think you gotta look at something for 99 cents.
