Dark Reign: Ares #1

My first reaction when I finished reading this was that it seemed pretty obvious that Kieron Gillen must have feelings of huge inadequacy with his manhood. I've never read anything this testosterone heavy, and I'm including both volumes of my beloved erotic stories: "The Bear That Took Out the Marine Corps." Top it off with one of the biggest cliches in the history of story-telling "Ah, you've tried to kill me, you've learned the lesson I was trying to teach you." and I couldn't help but start laughing out loud. Really! My husband was actually asking me what was so funny. Then Gillen tries to turn it around in the last two pages by having him worry about his son.

I loved the issue of Dark Avengers that Bendis wrote where Ares confronts Fury. That was actually a well rounded and three dimensional anti-hero that I could get into. This Ares, he's funny, I'll give you that. But then, I rolled my eyes at all the Rambo movies too. So what do I know.

LOVED the art! It saved this from being a lower score. If this was meant to be saterical, I'd give it a solid 9. But I actually think this was supposed to be serious.

Story: 4
Art: 9
My Score: 6

Herc and Wade would be fun, I'm about 85 percent certain on it.

Tom Raney.

I kind of wonder about it because it seems like something they wouldn't have done without her being in IM2, but I think it'll probably be a pretty good trade after it gets collected.

I sent a penny to Penny Arcade, but they didn't send me any product.

And the radio played like a carnival tune
As we lay in our bed in the other room
When we gave it away for the sake of a dream
In a penny arcade, if you know what I mean

I don't know why somebody hasn't killed that nosy reporter by now. Stupid sumbitch, always sticking his nose where it shouldn't be.

Yes, but Ares isn't human. He says that as he is striking a human. Unfair, says I.
