Ze rules:

Review as often or as little as you like. Once you've posted 5 reviews, you will be awarded 1 pick. You can post 5 reviews, right? That's a totally achievable goal and with day and date digital releases becoming the standard, it shouldn't matter if your shop ordered enough copies of this weeks comic or not.

When multiple Review Groupers have posted 5 (or more) qualifying reviews, they will be awarded their pick in the order that they qualified. What constitutes a qualifying review? Any review posted (with a score on a scale from 0-10, that's right 0!) within 1 calendar month of the thread going live. Reviews are to be at least 5 sentences long. It shows that a) you have at least read this week's pick and b) you have some unique insight into the comic.

Reviews posted while waiting in line for your pick will be applied to your next pick.

I'll be keeping track of everyone's progress with the newly christened Spreadsheet of Fantastic (RIP, Spreadsheet of Doom) and reporting the results in the Current Members list in the weekly OP. When it's your turn to make a pick, I will PM you. If you do not respond to me by Midnight EST the following Sunday, you will lose your pick and I will start a poll to determine that week's selection.

Any week in which we do not have a Review Grouper with 5 qualifying picks, we will determine the week's comic via poll.

Cheating by cut/pasting what I wrote in another thread but...

So we have a book that opens and closes with a Legion of Super-Heroes logo/icon rip-off and the plot to Giant-Sized X-Men #1 in the middle.

So what's to like about the book? Well, I personally enjoyed seeing Tony 'futurist' Stark blowing it (again) by not seeing the Hulk used against him. I also loved how the 'movie Avengers' get their asses handed to them in just a few panels (so brief in fact that we aren't even shown much of the fight and we're left to assume that the new bad guy is powerful enough to knock out a Hulk who was more powerful than Thor (so why go to the trouble of brainwashing Hulk?)).

Sarcasm aside, the art was pretty, but so far there is still nothing about Hickman that has impressed me.

I'll get #2 but the very idea that Falcon and some of these others on that last page would fair better against 'there is nothing-man' is comical when it should be easy for Cap to recruit powerhouses like: Wanda, Vision, Hercules, Wonder Man, She-Hulk, any of the FF, etc. not to mention those from the brain bank: Reed Richards, Hank Pym, Hank McCoy, etc.

I know that this is an 'Avengers book', but in a shared universe like Marvel's the logic that when faced with global extinction, Cap thinks that Kung-Fu Man is a better option than, say, Dr. Strange is just ridiculous.

It wasn't bad, but I can't say it was great. From the art, to the writing, to the villains that appeared this issue, nothing seemed to really stand out. It wasn't horribly written, but I still came away with the thought, "I don't know that I like this."

five out of ten for something that seems really average.

It wasn't horribly written, but I still came away with the thought, "I don't know that I like this." It could be an interesting story, I'm not sure, but so little actually happened plot wise this issue that it's hard to tell. I had intended to collect this series monthly, but after this issue, I may just end up treating it as if it's a limited series and just get the first story arc. After that, I suspect I'll drop it from my list. This was a somewhat disappointing beginning.
