Cave Carson Has a Cybernetic Eye #10

Image

Things aren’t just weird for Team Carson, they’re mega- weird, as their trans-dimensional adventure brings them to a world unlike any they have ever seen before (with or without cybernetic enhancement!), filled with sentient plant life and megafauna. Plus, a new installment of “The Wonderful World of Rocks with Marc Bartow” by Mark Russell (THE FLINTSTONES) and Benjamin Dewey (Autumnlands) and “Bane’s Coloring Corner” by Brandon Bird!

Digital copy can be found here.

Ze rules:

Post your review in the forum thread or in the comments section here on the front page.

Review as often or as little as you like. Once you've posted 5 reviews, you will be awarded 1 pick. You can post 5 reviews, right? That's a totally achievable goal and with day and date digital releases becoming the standard, it shouldn't matter if your shop ordered enough copies of this weeks comic or not.

When multiple Review Groupers have posted 5 (or more) qualifying reviews, they will be awarded their pick in the order that they qualified. What constitutes a qualifying review? Any review posted (with a score on a scale from 0-10, that's right 0!) within 1 calendar month of the thread going live. Reviews are to be at least 5 sentences long. It shows that a) you have at least read this week's pick and b) you have some unique insight into the comic.

Reviews posted while waiting in line for your pick will be applied to your next pick.

I'll be keeping track of everyone's progress with the newly christened Spreadsheet of Fantastic (RIP, Spreadsheet of Doom) and reporting the results in the Current Members list in the weekly OP. When it's your turn to make a pick, I will PM you. If you do not respond to me by Midnight EST the following Sunday, you will lose your pick and I will start a poll to determine that week's selection.

Any week in which we do not have a Review Grouper with 5 qualifying picks, we will determine the week's comic via poll.

If it's your week to pick, remember to keep it at $3.99 or under.

Swedish Pinata of Death

I've not been reading Cave Carson. I read issue one of most of the young animal books and they didn't grab me enough to add them to pull lists. They struck me as desperately trying to be Grant Morrison '90. Despite this i figured it was worth giving this issue a go to see what I was missing. I enjoyed the art, not surprising since ive been a fan of Oeming for nearly 2 decades. As for the story? It wasn't a great jumping on point, ignoring the old adage that every issue is somebody's first and throwing characters about Willy nilly. Mad dog's There but is that deathstroke or shadowy mad dog? Carson's daughter(?) Is a priincess(?) With a body guard but is the guard called t'gal or is that short for something? Somebody called alexa is a tree zombie? Metal men want to steal caves eye, i think? There was some interesting family banter with Caves daughter (?) Getting jealous of his alternaverse son(?) But i had little clue what was going on and if I wasn't a long term comic reader ìd have picked up even less. It was interesting enough that I'm debating looking up the trade, but I'm not in a rush.5/10

What did you expect when the 10th issue is the first one you pick up?

Someone picked this to review, I reviewed it.
Every issue is somebody's first. DCs no recap page policy and the trend for writing for trade means this issue fails that test.

Yeah, sorry about that, based on the solicitation and the story so far, I mistakenly thought this issue would be more self contained than it turned out to be. :smt102

No problems it reminded me young animal was a thing so I might change opinion if/when I catch up.

I really enjoyed this series when it first came out. The last few issues though, it seems like the story is dragging. It's almost as if the writer is trying to stretch things out past where the story is actually comfortable being stretched to. Don't get me wrong, there were some things I liked. The alternate universe Cave Carson Jr was fun and the evil alternate Dr. Magnus and his Metal Men look like they're going to be interesting new takes on those characters.

Early on in this series, a lot happened each issue. The pace of the plot moved at a good pace that gave this series a sense of fun. It's been a lot slower going the past few issues, ever since the team began dimension hopping, and the story hasn't been as fun. This issue in particular, not all that much happened that effected the overall plot. It left me with a sense if frustration more than enjoyment.

I've been enjoying Mother panic the most lately. When these series first started my favourite was Cave Carson Has a Cybernetic Eye. Like i said in my review though Cave Carson has gotten itself bogged down in its story and its nowhere near as fun as it was when it began.
