I might just look at the pretty pictures in this one and skip any captions or dialogue. I'm sure as hell not going back and reading any previous issues or List book to catch up on where the sucky non-Ennis Punisher is at this point. :x

THE CROSSOVER EVENT OF THE CENTURY IS HERE! The heroes of the Image Universe are united in order to fight the greatest threat the world as ever faced! You can’t miss this historic event as the original Image Founders draw all the characters they made history with. Each page is an amazing jam piece – it’s a story told in a way never before attempted in comics!

If you would like to join the group it's easy. Just post a review and I'll add you to the member's list. As long as you stay active, eventually it will be your turn to make a pick.

With $4 comics becoming the norm, the economy being what it is and the growing popularity of mail order services the Review Group recognizes that it's becoming harder and harder to commit to participating each and every week. As long as you can post one review per calendar month you will stay in the member's list. It doesn't matter if you post your review the week of it's release or if you post it later. Going forward, there is no such thing as a "late" review.

The only request I make with the new format is that if you don't plan on posting a review or if you're going to be posting late is that you drop a note in the thread so that I can keep track of who is active and who isn't. The Spreadsheet of Doom is thorough, but it can't read your mind.

Image
Comics are to be scored on a scale from 1-10. 1 being suck, 10 being a damn good comic. Beyond that, there's no right or wrong.

Image
If it's your week, you must announce your selection by 5pm EST the day Diamond releases it's shipping list. If you do not announce your pick at that time, I will add a poll to the thread that will remain open until 12pm EST so that the group can make the selection for that week. (If you're seriously MIA, I'll probably put the poll up sooner) To ensure that you know it's your week, I will PM you when Midtown's list goes live on Thursdays.

I'll be heading to my old comic shop tomorrow to pick up some odds and ends, so I'll see if I can get this.

Last week is a no go. The shop is still working out some kinks, and they aren't getting in a lot of books from the big 2, much less anyone else.

Non-Ennis Punisher is fine, but it'll be interesting to compare this with last week's more serious Jason Aaron MAX relaunch.

Fraction was good, Remender is good, and did you read Jason Aaron and Steve Dillon's first issue last week? It was good stuff.

Both issues we reviewed were utter dogshit.

The issue we reviewed was typical Remender mediocrity.

Maybe I'll read it in trade, but everything I saw about it indicated that he was just aping Ennis' Marvel Knights Punisher.

Aarons punisher was very Ennis-like. Having the same artist certainly didn't help distinguish it. I loved Ennis-Dillon punisher but I sort of also want to see Aaron's own take on the character and not just an extension of Ennis'.

Try and find a copy of Last Year's Punisher X-Mas special, it's Jason Aaron and Roland Boschi, and it's awesome.

I love Dillon, but I think it was a really poor choice for Marvel to put him on that book.

Aaron deserves the opportunity to establish himself on the title. Dillon just needs to get away from Marvel and do something new.

i read that and it was awesome. I was hoping to get more of that but instead we got more Ennis basically. I liked the book a lot but I think I liked it for the wrong reason. I didn't like it bc it was Aaron, I liked it bc it reminded me of Ennis which I think Aaron is selling himself short by mimicking his style so far. Honestly I think Aaron is a more talented writer than Ennis with huge upside and I hope he doesn't continue down the mimicking path.

I agree completely. Dillon is becoming typecast into that role of the artist for punisher max books. He's very talented but damn he needs to do something new.

If i were aaron I'd have requested a different artist, no disrespect to dillon but it would have been in aarons best interest.

Yeah, it did seem a bit Ennisy, but then, Garth left such a big mark on the character, it's hard not to, unless you do something mental like Frankencastle.
