Celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Rocketeer with an all-new full-length series!

Dave Stevens created the Rocketeer in 1982 and it has proven to be a uniquely enduring Character. Now Cliff Secord and the Rocketeer take to the skies once again as Mark Waid and Chris Samnee spin a yarn in the best tradition of Dave Stevens, bringing us a tale of great adventure, suspense and humor!

A ship docks in Los Angeles harbor from a far-off and exotic locale—with a big, mysterious… and living… cargo! Danger and mayhem abound as our hero leaps into the fray! Plus, we introduce a lovely new character who will be vying against Betty for Cliff’s affections!

Read it a few minutes ago and I'm going to wait 'til later to post a review. Anyhoo, I'll try to post a poll for next week's choice within a day or two. Suggestions welcome.

This was my first time reading a Rocketeer comic and well.....I wasn't blown away, but I can't say that I wasn't entertained. The plot thread involving the pervy inspector just didn't cut it for me. It just didn't satisfy on its own and merely served only as a way to deliver action within the comic early and to make the supporting cast likable. I will say that the damaged villain that occupies part of the comic comes across really well. The way that Mark Waid wrote him made his disturbed nature believable and interesting. Arguably the best part of the comic is the art from Chris Samnee and Jordie Bellaire. I've always thought that Samnee's ink work looked great own its own, but I felt that some colorists just didn't make his art pop out in color. Bellaire's colors mesh perfectly with Samnee's art and easily makes her a colorist to watch. Rocketeer fan's should give this a look.

Out of curiosity, did anyone else actually pick this up?

With the announcement this week that Disney are considering doing a new Rocketeer movie, it’s exciting times for fans of Cliff Secord, even without the late great Dave Stevens. This new mini-series, from the creative team that’s currently kicking all kinds of ass on Daredevil, Mark Waid and Chris Samnee, really nails the tone and spirit of what Stevens had with this character, and it looks like being a great continuation for the character. There’s all of the stuff you expect from a Rocketeer comic, exciting airbound action, Cliff arguing with Betty, and surprise cameos from famous pulp characters. It seems to me like the villain of this series is going to be an analogue of Doc Savage’s great enemy, John Sunlight, which is very exciting. It was fun to have loads of different artists play with short stories for the character, but this long-form adventure is much more like what Stevens did, and I trust in Mark Waid to not make this a cash-in on a classic legacy. This isn’t Before Watchmen, this is a fantastic tribute.
