We're gonna sell comics like it's 1995!

There are days where I feel that we give DC a hard rap. Sure, the company's in the midst of a public meltdown highlighted by weekly employee walkoffs, bizarre quotes in the national media, and an inability to do even the simplest things, like put the correct creator credits on the name of their books. But, they're still a company made up of good people, and I'm pretty sure that 99.9% of its employees have never killed anyone or done anything else really morally reprehensible.
However, those thoughts get quickly scuttled when I see reports from Rich Johnston like this one, stating that DC is planning on publishing comics with 3D covers, the latest in a long line of largely ineffective gimmicks to boost sagging sales.
I can almost imagine how that conversation went:
Dan Didio: Well, we shot for the stars with the gatefold covers and failed guys. What should we try next?
Scott Snyder: Craft well told stories with a healthy respect of our company's long history that are enjoyable to readers young and new?
Dan Didio: Damnit, Scott, we're here to appeal to as many people as possible with our comics, not publish ones that are actually worth the paper they're printed on! Who else has an idea?
Bob Harras: We need to think outside the box. In....THE THIRD DIMENSION!
Dan Didio: That's brilliant! We'll make actual 3D covers! Fans will be drawn to the images leaping off the page and buy every one they can! This is why you're the editor in chief, Bob!
Bob Harras: Well, it's certainly not for my ability to manage staff or produce quality comics, that's for sure!
Anyways, yes, this is only a rumor at this point, but Rich is usually right about these things. And frankly, given DC's past output, is anyone surprised by DC trying another silly gimmick that won't sell comics and only distracts from any real attempt to improve their output?
All we can do is beg DC to please, please, please not try another stupid gimmick. It just makes you look more foolish, which in turn makes our job easier when we mock you and get oodles of hits. We don't want this much traffic, DC. It costs money, and people expect us to...well, be funny, something that our forum readers frequently remind us that we're not. We can't live up to this pressure, DC! Just say no to cheap gimmicks!
