Is It Sad How Little We Talk About DC Nowadays?

Postby Zechs » Fri Jan 18, 2013 12:25 am

I mean seriously, when was the last time someone actually posted a DC comic to discuss in this forum? Heck the well was almost dry on DC winning Moments of the Week until last. Are we afraid of someone just jumping on them? Of course I might on Batgirl but only because IvCNuB4 kind makes me want to post in the threads to mock the book.

The only real time now it seems we talk about them when they've done something funny or we get their solicitations to talk on whether we're picking it up or showing how that list is a shrinking.

It almost saddens me that DC has done this to us. Because obviously it's not us the buyers since we're still buying stuff but it's more Marvel now.. which is kind of ironic when it's phrased that way. :P

I mean we got what three DC "events" going on and we're not even talking about it yet here we are discussing the latest stuff from Marvel.

I looked at the DC solicits that were posted and decided that DC sucks. I really couldn't care less about anything going on there.

At least Marvel NOW has had some interesting shit going on.

Still, make mine INDIE!

Indies and creator owned are the way to go IMO because you get the real heart and dedication in those titles. Writers have the freedom to do whatever they want and it always makes for a more fun story. I think in general, the writer puts his or her heart into the story and characters and as a result, we as readers end up getting attached to the story too. Also, there isn't 40-60 years worth of continuity to worry about, so we don't end up agonizing over silly little things like some people do. Most importantly, I think the lack of CASHGRAB on these titles just lets us as readers rest relatively easy knowing we aren't going to be inundated with BS crossovers or events where we spend a crapload of money because some corporation wants to cash in on a milestone or trend.

There isn't 40-60 years of continuity at DC anymore either, but that's not making the majority of us pick the books up

People talk about DC all the time around here. They talk about how much they hate DC. I'm currently reading four monthly DC comic books. That's pretty damn high for me. When the new 52 started up I was reading a record high five DC comics.

Wonder Woman and Batman are good, I, Vampire was and Rotworld is not as interesting as any of those three. Vertigo is a plot to make me sad.

Do you fear then to talk about DC because well of this? I'm just curious. I mean someone is buying the Nu52 here. But nobody ever talks about it. Like a shameful secret or something.

I don't start a whole lot of threads around here. It's hard for me to jump into the conversations about current comic books because I only get my comic books once a month. I don't know a lot about DC continuity so the Nu52 was a good jumping on point for me. I've checked out nine different Nu52 comic books. That is a really high number for me. I grew up as a Marvel zombie and later branched off into Image. I was never a big fan of DC. When I look at the what are you buying thread, I see a bunch of people buying DC comics.

Perhaps not, but there is 40-60 years worth of character history nonetheless. People have expectations of what the characters should and shouldn't be.

The only DC book I'm buying is GL and to be honest I have no idea why. Completism is the only thing I can think of.

i honestly think i'm gonna use the end of the batman storyline and the gl storyline to drop those books... the only books that are making me excited from DC are Ame-Comi Girls, Smallville and Earth 2

That is worse than your love of Gucci Mane music. Bad Vic Mackey! Bad!

GL was the last DC book I was regularly interested. I read it in trades. Then that whole Blackest Knight thing happened and I was just like "Maaaaaan I waited all this time for this garbage?" and I never read a DC book ever again.

Except the Kirby Omnibuses. In fact, those are the only things DC is putting out that are worth a damn.

Don't forget L'il Gotham. :-D I can't believe the back issue and trade stuff I've gone through now. I can't wait for the Shade or Solo HC more than a new issue of DC.
