A) with innovative ideas
B) creator friendly
C) knows what sells
D) takes risks

Based on that, IF they want to find a new EIC I'd throw money at Millar or Loeb. Maybe Brubaker. They're already influencing the films and television shows to their respective companies benefits, maybe it's time DC stopped trying to cost cut and hire someone the market respond towards.

(For this instance I'm assuming Bendis is still under contract and Morrison won't come back)

Since then he's had his books on the LOSH and a team up book cancelled. He's been an EIC for one company (not for long) as well as being fired from FF.

He's a good writer I think. Not sure he is suited to EIC.

Still waiting for you to mention what DiDio-written books were destroying the competition prior to him becoming EiC...

A necessary sacrifice to bring back Wally West and order at DC Comics! They've literally gone later half WCW on us. I now expect Vince Russo.. I mean Bob Harras to publicly humiliate Jeff Jarrett.. I mean Dan Didio at the next convention.

They got themselves into this mess they should get themselves out without ruining two books I like.

Mark Waid:

A & D) -- speaking in terms of pushing the medium, is out in front of the digital movement with his Thrillbent stuff.
B) has handled numerous creators as an EiC before, at BOOM for 3 years.
C) has written everything from Archie to Kingdom Come (one of the highest-selling comics of all time), including high-selling and award-winning runs on Capt. America, FF, Flash, JLA, Daredevil, 52, etc.
D) going to BOOM was quite a risk. Thrillbent is quite a risk

plus the EiC experience factor. any other citeria you want to make up that practically no one currently in comics EXCEPT Waid can meet?

Sounds perfect. Leave creatives to be creative. Don't think this will ever happen though.

Just to be clear I think Waid's a pretty good editor but a really bad fit as EIC for DC. He has a tendency to butt heads with the higher ups.

You need someone who can do everything Waid laid out in his blog post AND play nice with the corporate types. Joe Quesada for all his faults was pretty good at both.

No, I'm saying that you've created this superficial criterion "needed" for Waid to become EiC, that nobody else has needed to fill.

Well they've lost Brubaker, Millar and BKV in the last few years. It's not like they're keeping creatives happy either.

Marvel didn't make those guys quit, they are still on good terms.

But standing up for the creative people below him might be just what DC needs right now.

I suspect that DiDio being a yes-man for Warners is part of the problem with current DC. This problem is especially evident with the DCnU, which reads like nothing more than a bunch of TV/movie pilots begging for Warners to pick some up.

I for one am glad of this change.. action comics was probably my least favorite titles of the "new 52" that I actually read.

His first issue is definitely done being written and the second is/was probably fairly far along. Artists aren't as fast as you think...
