Anyone else check this out? Not much story to it. It was all about introducing alternative versions of people and places. The interaction between characters seemed a bit over-dramatized, but perhaps that's a nod to Lucas' own storytelling.

I picked this up today. After reading it, I'm not sorry that I got it, but it is definitely going to be a part of my collection more as a token of nerdiness than for its own merits.

Interesting. You would think that, based on how much worse the movies get after Lucas tinkers with them, going back to the purest, original draft would result in the most perfect story ever told.

It's not "bad" per se. It reads kind of like a five year old recounting a summer blockbuster-type action flick. I mean, it's all "BANG" and "ZOOM" and "RARGH!" and "PEW-PEW!", but not a whole lot else.

Like I said, the real draw is the source material, not the story itself, in my opinion.

You have to love the fact that George Lucas is front and center on the cover...as well as Swamp Thing apparently... :smt017

I believe the 'Swamp Creature' is Han Solo, who, apparently, was originally envisioned as a green alien.

How close is it to the original script?

It depends on what you mean by original. This is based on his first draft. In that sense it is his original vision of the story. However, first drafts tend to be a long way from what is eventually sold to the studios, publishers, etc. And usually the changes made along the way are intended to improve things. So you wouldn't actually expect an initial draft to be any good. This, however, is only based on that draft. I think it really just spent the whole issue establishing how different it is.

I mean the first draft. The one floating around online with a 14 year old Anakin that reads like terrible fanfic. I'm more curious if it's so bad it is funny. Like a B movie.

And why shouldn't you? Personally, I don't think things have developed enough, storywise, for me to say 'yea' or 'nay.'

So, the third issue came out yesterday. We get a C3PO and R2D2 scene much like the one in the movie, but we also get to see Darth Vadar in full garb, yet with his face uncovered. Oh, and apparently he's not a Sith. So far I haven't found the story to really stand on its own. What gets my attention are the differences between the first and final drafts.
