I don't think this has been happening a lot lately, but I always hated when a writer would introduce a new villain and have him beat up or kill a classic villain to prove what kind of a badass the new guy is.

Spider-man loses his powers, They are doing this again with the spider-sense and its stupid (just like the book has been since Slott took over).

Batman becomes a paranoid hermit. Yawn.

Spider-Man has never been better.

I really liked the gauntlet, grim hunt, and origin of the species, but Big Time has fallen really flat. Some of that blame falls on Humberto Ramos' shitty art, but Slott hasn't helped.

Everyone gets the powers of a specific superhero. Marvel did it with Hulked Out Heroes a year ago. They are doing it now (sort of) in Fear Itself where everyone gets hammers. They are about to do it yet again with Spider-Island.

This is hard for me to judge because I didn't see that one until after they resurrected him so I knew going in it didn't really matter. I liked Wrath of Khan because of how it pitted Khan and his people against the Enterprise. Huge, awesome space battle. Spock's death became relegated to Nimoy not wanting to be the character anymore. It was well done, sure, but it's impact had already been lost by the time I watched it.

I've always hated comic book deaths but I'm not as militant as Skyrider. I think I'd come down more on the side of Chap. Death is fine but it should be used SPARINGLY. It isn't. It's become formulaic.

And really, my Star Trek example will translate over to most episodic television. The main cast is usually safe from getting killed off. Deaths happen but it's usually of red shirts. When a main character DOES get offed, it's still a rarity and you know the central cast is probably safe. There are a couple exceptions, sure, but it definitely happens less frequently. We're talking about shows that get 20-22 episodes a year to comics' 12 issues and they kill off main characters much less frequently. It's only comics that keep shooting themselves in the foot.

TV shows kill characters much quicker and easier.

Overall, yeah. I don't remember how I felt about each specific arc anymore, but I know I liked more of it than not.

I plan to go back and re-read all of the books from BND to present at some point this summer, though, so we'll see.

I loved the Rhino and the sandman stuff, it really stands out to me even now. But I recall the vulture stuff being really lame.

What about LOST? They killed a lot of 'red shirts' for sure, but main characters died too. The same for Game Of Thrones at the moment. It raises the stakes when Charlie or Locke can die as well as Frogurt.

Those stories are designed to have an ending. Comics are ongoing and the people who die usually end up coming back, so what kind of impact does it really have?

I think you should augment parts 1 and 2. It should be "Permanently get them over their daddy issues and move forward" not essentially take them all out of the book.

That would involve at least 1-3 more Daddy Issue stories before they'd be able to pull it off, and besides how many times has Raven done just that only to wind up with yet another Trigon drama?

I think X Men can do with out a child born in the present, sent to the future, comes back as a bad ass story.

No More Black Panther Deconstruction Stories. We've had enough of those to last 2 lifetimes.
