Superman and Wonder Woman sitting in a tree...

Superman and Wonder Woman sitting in a tree...

The rumors are true. Superman and Wonder Woman are a couple.

Source: EW.com

For Superman fans irate by the fact that his marrage to Lois Lane was OMD'd by the events of Flashpoint, get ready to be even more irate. After seeing Clark Kent getting cockblocked by Lois Lane's Nu-52 beau Jonathan Carroll, fans wondered if the Man of Steel was going to find himself a new Woman of Kleenex, or remain a virgin all his life. Justice League #12 answers that question by having Supes hook up with the Amazon Princess, Wonder Woman. And it's apparently not a one-night stand, either.

"This is the new status quo,” says Geoff Johns, Justice League writer and most hated man at DC not named Dad Didio. Johns' JL conspirator, artist Jim Lee chimes in by adding that “Hopefully this will raise a lot of eyebrows.”

Well, it's bound to raise a lot of something. At least in the Man of Steel's pants. DC may have to start thinking about bringing the red trunks back after this one.  It should be noted that both Rich Johnston, Bleeding Cool's resident shipper in chief, and the Outhouse reported last June about DC's plans to pair up the two heroes, but many believed the plans were dropped to preserve the sensitive stability of the Internet.

If there's any truth to this (had to tell what's snark and what's not)... great news. Shake it up DC. :smt023

The only negative I can see is that the lasso being all over the place. Never a fan of when Spidey or DD did that. It may look 'kewl' but it's completely impractible (even for super-heroes).

I'm glad that Superman fans no longer have to worry about Superman's virginity. However, it looks like they've already moved on to the state of his external underwear.

I'm a Superman fan and I haven't had to worry about Superman's virginity since the mid-70's...

The way Newsarama reported this bothered the shit out of me. The way it was written, it was like we should expect that--just because a male character appears in a Wonder Woman comic--it's likely that he and Wonder Woman are going to become romantically involved. The fact that they mentioned "many fans" thinking Orion might become romantically involved with Wonder Woman was the tipping point.

This could be cool, though. I wonder how it'll affect the solo titles.

Meh... I hope the Wonder Woman book ignores it. The relationship is pointless to have on the Wonder Woman side. This is like in the Marvel Universe if Captain Marvel decided to bang Captain America. It shouldn't happen because it makes things more fan wonky. :P I'd rather have Superman date Big Barda or Maxima.

Why would fans become "irate" about this :smt017 It's not like this idea hasn't been played at endless times across different media versions of the characters.

I suppose this spoils the "shocking last page that will have the world talking about this issue!" that was teased in the solicit.

I think it's due to the whole "fanboy/backdoor" mentality that has been a backbone in the whole New 52 run. The fact that instead of progressing with new ideas or new situations, DC is just telling a 90s take on ideas seen in the 70s or 60s.

I just think that if DC wants to continue the special run that's going on in Wonder Woman that they have the writer ignore it. The character doesn't need it and if they're trying to make her truly on par with the other two members of the Trinity. She shouldn't be banging one of them.

I'd find it funny if it's true (I haven't read JL). In the fact that: Steve Trevor was put in the fridge just so Superman could bang Wonder Woman. Come on Gail! Why don't you speak out?!

This pretty much turns Wonder Woman into "Superman's Girlfriend" instead of being her own character.

I don't have a problem with superheroes dating ( not that that's particularly what I read superhero mags for ) but if you're gonna have WW date one, it shouldn't be one of the two heroes that is "bigger" than her at DC. This would work better if they went with someone from a lower tier than her like Flash, GL or Aquaman.

I always figured this was one of the things they wanted to do with the 52 relaunch, so not really shocked.

Honestly, I don't know how interesting a relationship it would be. I thought Batman/WW would have been way more intriguing...

Ever notice that Gail, who was known for that "Women in Refigerators" thing, felt it was cool and okay to portray women beating the crap out of, and killing, men in almost every issue of titles she wrote after that ?
