But that much hatred? You'd think he was talking about type face or superman or somebody of zero redeemable qualities like that.

At least hawkeye is a good lancer type character when Iron man isn't available.

Archers are one of the earliest hero archtypes and as such they are some of the oldest comic book characters. So when super teams first started being written and there weren't as many heroes to pick from to fill the rosters they were one of the few available IMO. Or to put it more simply: they were picked because there wasn't anyone else.
