I recently have heard some people talk about how the New 52 Amanda Waller and they have issues with her being slimmed down and de-aged in the Suicide Squad book. Upon seeing the recent pics I did kind of see what they were talking about. Now bear in mind, Waller in the New 52 looks physically hot but I just didn't see the point of the new change.
What was interesting about Waller before the New 52 was that she was a complete badass who was able to hold her own against the likes of Batman. Plus, the fact that as an overweight character she was one of the few that wasn't used for comic relief and didn't use her lack of good looks to get her way-unlike almost all other female characters in comic-dom. As a fat and middle-age woman, Waller's physical looks fit her badass personality but as a generic young and slim super-model-lite character I would have a harder time taking her seriously no matter how vicious they would try to make her. As nice as the New 52 incarnation is to look at physically, I must concur with most people that there was little point in the new change( Much like making Barbara Gordon Batgirl again or even making Barry Allen the Flash once more). The one way I could see the New 52 Amanda Waller work is if it is revealed that she is actually her niece or estranged daughter that just showed up to take original Waller's place while Waller Sr. was in the background manipulating things.

I miss Amanda Waller. This chick they have in the DC right now is NOT Amanda Waller.

(I know how fanboyish that makes me sound, but I stand by it.)

Same. I mean, slimming her down isn't a deal breaker, but I do like the idea of people with more than just svelte body shapes.

Exactly what I am saying. At least the Fat Waller you could take seriously-whereas Skinny Waller looks like she belongs on America's Top Model or in Victoria's Secret.

What made Amanda Waller what she was was that she was the sole "realistic figure" (in all meanings of the word) in the comic world she operated in. To change that is to alter her entire character.

I have no problem with change, but only change with purpose. This change served no purpose except to ruin a great character ... of course, you could say that about the entire Suicide Squad (I like to pretend Harley Quinn hasn't be reintroduced to the DCU yet.)

I am still holding on to the hope that this current chick is her niece or daughter and that the real Amanda Waller is still the middle-aged and overweight person who will show up soon.

Exactly. At least in her original appearance, you could respect the fact that she got by more on her personality and capabilities rather than her body. Current Waller looks nothing more than eye-candy and like I said, I would be less inclined to take her seriously when the thoughts of just bedding her will instantly come up before she opened her mouth.

I agree. Besides who is going to be taken more seriously? An overweight woman with the personality of Nick Fury or a skinny girl who looks like Halle Berry's clone?

Despite my problems with both characters, current Nick Fury (Jr.) and Amanda "Halle Berry" Waller would make a match made in comic heaven.

what's kind upsetting, is they didn't just slim down Amanda Waller but they also slimmed down (and changed races) of Etta Candy... So the two "non" supermodel characters in the DC Universe are now skinny and "hot"

Good one! Plus they make you appreciate Fury Sr. and Fat Waller much more.

Apart from slimming down Waller, they made Barbara Batgirl again so I am willing to bet that they will make Batwoman, Apollo and Midnighter straight at some point down the road as well. The New 52's motto is that only slim, straight and fully functioning people are allowed at DC.

and i'm willing to bet you would be wrong on all counts... there's NO way they would change any of those characters to straight, Batwoman CONTINUALLY wins awards for the company. Especially with them announcing a gay character, they wouldn't turn their 3 biggest existing gay characters straight.
