It's not groundbreaking by any stretch... but it is a well written and well drawn comic.

To me the reboot works great. I like not having to deal with all the continuity. As a Marvel fan though I would be pissed if they rebooted all their comics. I'm thinking about picking up a few more titles from DC when the next wave of releases come out.

Long story (that I'll try and make shorter) but when I started collecting in 1984/5 all of my friends were Marvel Zombies. The corner store where I was getting my comics only carried 8 per month... 4 DC and 4 Marvel. I read through the Marvel books so fast that I started getting DC books just to have something else to read and got hooked.

At my peak reading in about 2003 I was getting 60-65 monthly books and it was a 50-50 split (though mini's or one shots would often push it one way or the other) between the two. Since Identity Crisis in 2004 my DC percentage has shrunk from 50% to 45%, then 40% and is, right now about 25% of my monthly buying with a few more books on the chopping block. Marvel has been the beneficiary as I've added mostly Marvel books to my pull list with a few Dynamite in there as well (can't wait for the new Shadow series!!!).

Didio, Lee, Morrison and Johns and their stories and overall direction of the DCU has been the principle reason for me dropping (though Johns was, at one time, AMAZING with JSA, Stars and STRIPE etc.).

When I first got into comic books all of my friends were Marvel zombies too. I started off reading Marvel exclusively. After Image was formed I started to read a few independent comics. It took me a very long time before I started to read anything from DC monthly. I have been leaning more and more in the independent direction through the years. Looking at my May comic book order it breaks down: Marvel 56%, Indies 34%, and DC 10%. I'm going to be cutting some Marvel books with my next order.

Why are you cutting the Marvel books? Are you making up your buying shortfall elsewhere?

I've always been a Marvel fan. I hated DC back when I started reading comics (around 1989). I started readin DC with Infinite Crisis, but then dropped a lot around Final Crisis. With NuDC, I've added a bunch more DC, and I'm actually more excited about my DC comics than my Marvel comics. I also read indies and old stuff in trades. NuDC reminds me of classic valiant right now. It's fun reading about a new, shared universe, populated by characters I already know and love.

EDIT: I lied. I actually started reading DC a little back in the 90s. For example, I have the Gothic issues of Legends of the Dark Knight, and I have some sporadic issues of Robins I, II, and III, and I have some issues of Return of Superman (the issues when the 4 new supermen appeared). I also have Green lantern 48, 49 and 50 (beginning of Emerald Twilight). Oh, and I have "the Batman Gallery" which I loved.

The problem is when I looked at my May order I am up to 61 comics. Some of the Marvel one's I feel like I'm still getting because I'm a completionist and I'm really not enjoying them that much. I'll probably drop around 3-4 Marvel books with my next order. I would like to get that number down by at least 5.

Glad to hear that. I won't make it a priority, then.

So far I am really not enjoying the Incredible Hulk. In fact, I think it sucks.

The few new 52 books I have actually enjoyed have been Superman where he faces Helspont, Red Hood and the Outlaws( Despite the poor piss job they have done with Roy and Khori), Static and Nightwing where he faced off against Daken( I mean Saiko). I wish that they would send the Wildstorm characters back to their own universe and restore DC's original timeline.

It is certainly better than Morrisson's run.

Based on a recent interview with Didio, I'm guessing that as long as he's around, that isn't going to happen.

Yeah, I figured that out a while back. Didio feeds off the hate the DC fans have for him. The only way Didio will ever go is if he really fucks up like Jim Shooter did.

What did Shooter do to get fired?
Proof is imminent...
