The New52 Reverse Flash Story Begins in

This Reverse Flash is a new character with a new costume, new powers and a new motivation.

Source: Newsarama

We got our first glimpse of the New52 Reverse Flash in issue #17 and now his story unfolds beginning in issue #20.

Newsarama has an interview with the Flash creative team. Highlights are as follows:

- First off, they have confirmed that the new Reverse Flash is not Wally West.

- This new Reverse Flash has a entirely new set of powers, different from past incarnations of the character.

- The event that gives this character his powers also dictates his appearance and explains his costume. The way he gets his powers is a lot more brutal than the way Barry got his powers. And in the way that Barry switches to his costume, the Reverse Flash’s works a little differently.

- Reverse Flash is killing people associated with the Speed Force, and there's "a reason" he's after them.

- Kid Flash and Barry meet for the first time in the New 52 in The Flash #21 as Kid Flash is also on the Reverse Flash’s radar.

- Iris and Barry will be thrown together in this storyline, which leads to a love triangle between them and Patty (Barry’s current girlfriend).

- Fans will discover the Reverse Flash’s identity at the same time that Barry does.

- The Reverse Flash won't start off as someone who's against the Flash, but as this story arc continues he will become linked to Flash.

Hopefully they don't have Wally as a victim of the new Reverse Flash.

When the DCnU began didn't they say at the end of Flashpoint that they knew who Eobard Thawne was?

More inconsistency?

So you want Wally to be a villain just so he'll appear? That pretty much undermines the argument that he's a great character.

make it where Wally has to fight Barry b/c he wants to fix the DCnU and return it to the old version. anybody who did that would be a hero in my book.

I think that the general idea behind the theory that Wally would be the DCnU Reverse Flash was that he would be the actual Wally West from prior to Flashpoint and that he would remember the previous DCU. Eventually he would come into conflict with Barry and the rest of the heroes because he would want to restore the previous timeline. So, the question would be "If he is trying to restore the proper timeline, how could he be a villain?"

At the end of "Flashpoint" #5 when Barry is speaking with Bruce (in the New52), he does reference Thawne and what happened to cause Flashpoint but Thawne had been killed earlier in that issue by Thomas Wayne.

Just found an older interview with Buccalleto at ComicBook.com:
Another thing he won’t be, is any of the previous versions of the character. Edward Clariss, Eobard Thawne and Hunter Zolomon will remain missing in action at least for now in the New 52, while a totally new Reverse Flash is introduced to take on this new role.

Not only does changing the identity of the Reverse Flash create new story possibilities for the character, but it takes one particular story–how Thawne would remember the events of Flashpoint, in which he played a key role before the universe was reborn–off the table.

If it's not Wally, Eobard Thawne, or Hunter Zoloman then I believe the likelihood is that Dr. Darwin Elias is the nuReverse Flash.

That's a lot of speculation to treat his theoretical appearance as unquestionably messianic.

The fact that I don't know if this is a joke or not is why the old DCU sucked and the Nu52 was the best thing to ever happen to it.
