The Post-Flashpoint Firehawk (Minor Firestorm Spoiler)

Postby Stephen Day » Fri Apr 27, 2012 10:50 pm

I read this month's issue of The Fury of Firestrom, and I was surprised to discover that the current Firehawk isn't Lorraine Reilly. Instead, the new Firehawk is a French woman and the national Firestorm of that country. I have nothing against this new character, she could turn out to be really cool, but I will say that I'm going to miss Lorraine and particularly Lorranine as Firehawk.

She's going to be a member of the JLI. And I have to say, I like this idea: it's good to see a few international characters, and let's face it the original was pretty redundant.

The post Flashpoint Universe continues to fail.

French Superheroes, Hahaha. What do they do? I'm guessing surrender faster. Or in the case of female french characters get slaughtered.

La Fraternité de Justice et Liberté. Hahaha.

At least Godiva isn't going to be the only female on this team. I swear, if I was going to blow up the team like the creative team did with #7 I'd make damn sure if anyone relatively new (or under-explored) was going to bite it, it would've been Godiva as she had the dishonorable distinction of being the least interesting character of a bunch of characters that were made to be less interesting than they should've been.

How do you take a team that has Booster Gold, Guy Gardner, August General in Iron, Vixen, Fire, Ice and Rocket Red and make them one of the most boring Superhero teams since the early - mid Bronze Age? That takes some real hard work to do.

Wow. Just wow. More drastic changes on a title that isn't selling. Great idea. Firestorm might be the biggest fail for me in this whole relaunch debacle. I was a big Firestorm fan but this is garbage, and the creators can't even bother to commit to a book. Much like GA or Hawkman. They come in, enjoy the big sales of a new No. 1, and then bail for better paying gigs. Leaving a real mess behind.

"Isn't selling" ?

Dec 2011: Firestorm ranked at 87 out of 387
Jan 2012: Firestorm ranked at 96 out of 408
Feb 2012: Firestorm ranked at 119 out of 388.

Yeah, it's been slipping a bit, but now with Gail off the title, expect it to rebound back up :groucho:

I'm enjoying it, but realistically speaking, if you look at the sales range of other cancelled series, Firestorm is right at that level.
