The Shadow #1 (Spoilers)

Postby Ntikrst » Sun Apr 22, 2012 3:20 pm

Accept no substitutes Batfans, the true Dark Detective has returned!

What a glorious start to a new series, well especially if you've ever been deeply offended by The Raping of Nanking. This is why The Shadow is King, not only does he kill what needs killing without dribbling all over his cape about his retarded ideologies, he has super-powers that enable him to dominate his foes in a believable manner without relying on his opponent's bad aim.

This issue was a great start to the series. Rationalized ultra violence against bad guys hasn't been this enjoyable since Stallone cut loose on the .50 cal in Rambo 4. A slight psychic upgrade now allows him to see people's future to some degree, which hopefully leads to some interesting developments later on. Not to mention the ladies love him, or is he just clouding their minds? Even better!

This single issue was better than every other Batman comic book put together. Batman is an ineffectual child by comparison, ruled by fear and ideological rhetoric. I'm glad to cleanse my palate of that overexposed rodent fetishist!
Proof is imminent...

As an avid Shadow fan (who would have guessed? :-D ) I liked the issue a lot!

Some more development needs to be done and I thought the issue ended rather abruptly (perhaps a few more pages for the #1 would have helped) but overall I'm in for #2.

I just re-read this again, wow what a magnificent Bastard! I love it!

Has The Shadow always been so ruthless in his methods? I don't mean the killing, but how he treats his support staff. That bit with Miss Lane (was there a Miss Lane back in the 30's too?) was smooth yet cold.

The glimpses of the future are very chilling; "Let the boy have some fun, he's dead in 6 years." Did he always have these abilities, or is this something new?

Margo Lane was created for the radio show and then introduced into the pulps. He never was that cold to his close supporters but he could be terrifying to those he meets for the first time.

And he's never had precognitive abilities. In the pulps he had no powers, until the radio show which gave him the abilities of hypnotism, which was then used in the pulps.
